There is one very simple rule when selecting bottled beers from an unfamiliar range: choose only those which are bottle-conditioned. There are good beers around which are not bottle-conditioned - and there are many very bad ones. However, I have NEVER drunk a poor bottle-conditioned beer.
Most brewers do mark the labels as "bottle-conditioned" but if they don't there's an easy way to check: Take the bottle and hold the base of it up to the light. Swirl, shake or even invert it and you will see a deposit of yeast. It might be very slight (as is the case with Goose Island IPA) or very heavy (as is the case with Hop Back Summer Lightning). But even the smallest quantity indicates bottle-conditioning and quality. On the other hand, if the beer is crystal clear and bright, put the bottle back and move on. Richard English |

There were 63 new topics last month. That is slightly down on some months, agreed, but nothing to worry about. It works out at two a day. 42 were created by the 'top 5', leaving 21 shared among the rest. Very often people will post to an existing thread, in some cases reviving one several years old, instead of starting a new one. I think I prefer that to a completely new topic every time, as it gives us the chance to re-read old discussions.

Wordcrafter, I know you are experimenting with different colors. For me, I prefer the current look...something light with some blue and white or blue-gray and white. Just letting you know my preferences. I really don't much like this yellow, or whatever color it is.

Arnie, do you know how they count "active user count?" That seems to have gone down, while the average views per day have increased quite a bit. I seem to be decreasing the number of topics that I start. Interesting. Thanks, Arnie!

I've always taken active user count to be the number of individual posters in that month. Don't forget that February has only 28 days so is 2-3 days shorter than other months.
