We're all just getting to know what this board's software can do, and perhaps a "collected knowledge" thread will help us and all future newcomers.

Here's one just now discovered:

The board, as a default option, shows all times as measured in the time zone along the west coast of the United States. That can be inconvenient if you happen to be in another time zone. In your profile you can make the appropriate offset so that, on your own screen, times will appear in your own local time.

Shufitz asked how to add a link with text, rather than the URL of link itself as the clickable part. It's easy enough with the Instant UBBCode button.

Click the "URL" button, and type the URL of the link on the box that appears. I find it easiest to have another browser window open at the URL and copy/paste it from the URL box in the browser. Remember to include the
"http://"
part of the address.

Click OK and type in your text to be used as a link, then click OK again. Done! smile

As an example, here's a link to the thread: 6 Letters to fun!

If you want, you can also just type or paste in the URL and UBB will make it a link automatically: http://www.dictionary.com

I have a 2 questions for wordcrafter (or anyone else?) Is there a private message feature on this board? Others have asked this, too, in emails to me. Also, what does "pop it" do? Is that a good feature to use? Thanks. big grin

PS Love your Graemlins! cool

Let's see what we can do to answer your questions, Kalleh. There is a section for private topics on this board which can be used like a private message section. If you click on a participants nicname, it takes you to a screen that shows you their profile. Above the profile is an icon, a folder with a key, that says "Start a private topic with....". When you click on that, it takes you to a screen just like a regular posting screen. Here you can make a post that only the people you invite can see. I have taken the liberty of sending you a test post Kalleh, to see how it works.

Now, to find out if you have any private conversations going, I have found that when I come onto the board, I go right to >>New Since Your Last Visit<< on the home page. This shows you a list of all the posts that have been made since you were on last, and will list all private topics as well.

In addition to this, you can go to My Pop and select a preference: "My Pop Page", "Daily Email Digest", "Weekly Email Digest", or "Immediate Reply By Email". If there are any topics you want to follow, you can have a notification sent to you about them any number of these four methods.

Best I can tell you here is, I have no manual for this software, I'm just fiddling with it to figure it out. If anyone finds an easier way to do things, or finds a new trick, PLEASE feel free to post it here.

We are still learning! And, by the way, I love the Graemlins too! wink big grin

Another way to check your private topics, is to go to "My pop" in the upper right corner of the screen. Then click the "Private Topics" tab. This will show you a list of all private topics you are in! smile
