The old thread was getting long and unwieldy, so I've started this new thread about our regular Saturday chats.
Everyone is invited, including visitors to the the site. Just click "Go" > "Chat Rooms" > Wordcraft Chat Room" to get there.

Chats start every Saturday around the following times, depending on your time zone:

  • Hawaii - 7:00 a.m.
  • Pacific time - 10:00 a.m.
  • Mountain time - 11:00 a.m.
  • Central time - 12:00 noon
  • Eastern time - 1:00 p.m.
  • GMT - 6:00 p.m.

Of course, the chat room can be used by Wordcrafters outside these times if you wish to make your own arrangements.

I shall have to see. Work is presently getting in the way of more important things, like chatting and fine beer.

After I made the post above I go ahead and forget! By the time I remembered and logged on at 7.45 my time, there was no-one there. Frown

I couldn't make it today because I was at a brunch with some fellow authors, one of whom is a professor of Celtic Studies at the local University. She and I discussed linguistics and had a gay old time.

Thanks for the reminder, Arnie! While I finally did get on the computer yesterday, it seemed to take me forever.

I was at a conference all day today and couldn't make the chat. Sorry. However, Shu said a few people were there, such as missann, Saranita, Bob, and of course Shu.

The good news is that I'm in Orlando, which has beautiful, sunny weather (though they are complaining that 50s and 60s are too cold). I left zero degree weather. We Chicagoans are tough cookies! Roll Eyes

Sorry I missed most of the chat. A few minutes into it, my sister called from New Zealand. So I dropped out for about 50 minutes, but returned in time to catch a few interesting paragraphs on the subject of council housing in the UK vs. public housing in the US (not at all the same thing) with missann and BobH. Next week then. Have a nice time in Orlando, Kalleh!

I would have liked to have been there, but Saturday afternoons are busy for me.

I am sorry, too, Gooofy. Couldn't you find the time on one Saturday? We'd just love to see you.

Z, I know there must be a story behind, "There was a lot..." Wink

I was in and out. 1800 is the time when we have dinner so it's often awkward to keep a continuous presence.

I was there for ages. At the end, everyone else had gone and I was just about to hit the button to log out when missann came back and we chatted for another 15 minutes or so.

Hi folks. Sorry I couldn't be there this week either but this time of year is one of the busiest times for a singer. I had four lots of Carol singing yesterday alone(three of them outdoors) with four separate groups! This morning I had church, this afternoon I have a 2 hour practice for the Carols by Candlelight service tonight and I have several other things in the offing this week as well. I enjoy it, but it gets very hectic and I probably won't make it this Saturday either if there is one Frown. I shall be back to normal in the New Year (I hope).

I'll take this opportunity to wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone Smile.

"There was a lot..."

What's wrong with a little predicate nominative-copular concord?

I noticed that, Z, and thought, well, he's a man of the people, plus he'll find some reason why it's the Vikings' fault!

We had a nice chat today, albeit without Shu, who couldn't get on. He is now having more serious problems with his computer and can't even get on the site. Wouldn't you know...right around the holidays when there is no chance of getting any service, unless of course he wants to fly to India. Wink He said he was talking with a helpdesk guy in India, and they got into a long conversation. The poor guy only makes $6,000 per year.

That's pretty good. My friend's brother was only making around $1200/year, and he was near retirement from a bank HQ desk job.

Yes, these outsourced helpdesk jobs are good for both the company and the (foreign) employee. The employee earns a sum better than he could get in a domestic industry, and the company pays him less than a local employee. Only the (redundant) local helpdesk employee and the customer (because of [generally] poorer service) lose.
