In today's chat we talked about our love of lyrics. So, I thought it was time to revive a favorite game of mine.

We all love music, and have the lyrics running through our head. I will start with a few lines from a song. The idea is to pull one or two words, or a phrase from that song clip and post another short clip of another song that uses those same words.

In posting lyrics, please ~

~ confine the lyrics to four lines or less
~ boldface the Linking word or phrase
~ identify the title of the song, and
~ identify the composer or first performer of the song

OK. Here we go.
*********************************

It was no accident me finding you
Someone had a hand in it
Long before we ever knew
Now I just can't believe you're in my life
Heaven's smilin' down on me
As I look at you tonight

The Keeper of the Stars

Make the world go away
Get it off my shoulder
Say the things we used to say
And make the world, make it go away

Make the World Go Away

This is the only thing that comes to mind. Man, am I dating myself or what?

Go away little girl,
Go away little girl,
I'm not supposed to be alone with you
I know that your lips are sweet
But our lips must never meet
I belong to someone else
And I must be true

Sung by Donny Osmond as I recall, but have been informed there is earlier version.

I know that your lips are sweet.

So you got caught with a flat? Well, how 'bout that?!
Don't worry babies. Don't panic.
By the light of the night it'll all seem all right.
I'll get you a satanic mechanic!
I'm just a sweet transvestite from transexual Transylvania.

By the light of the silvery moon
I want to spoon.
To my honey I'll croon love's tune.
Honey moon, keep a shining in June.
Your silv'ry beams will bring love dreams.
We'll be cuddling soon
By the silvery moon.

By the light ... silvery moon

Sail along, silvery moon,
Trail along lover's lane,
Sail along, silvery moon,
To my love again.

In the glow of your light,
Let me see her tonight,
Once again, hold her tight,
Back in lover's lane.

- Sail Along Silvery Moon, by Harry Tobias, Percy Weinrich, 1937
a top hit of 1958, it seems

Sail away sail away
We will cross the mighty ocean into Charleston Bay
Sail away-sail away
We will cross the mighty ocean into Charleston Bay

In America every man is free
To take care of his home and his family
You'll be as happy as a monkey in a monkey tree
You're all gonna be an American

Look into my eyes and it's easy to see
One and one make two, two and one make three,
It was destiny.
Once every hundred-thousand years or so,
When the sun doth shine and the moon doth glow
And the grass doth grow...

Needless to say, the beast was stunned.
Whip-crack went his schwumpy tail,
And the beast was done.
He asked us: "(snort) Be you angels?"
And we said, "Nay. We are but men."
Rock!

crack thousand

The Night Has a Thousand Eyes

They say that you're a runaround lover
Though you say it isn't so
But if you put me down for another
I'll know, believe me, I'll know

(Chorus)
'cause the night has a thousand eyes
And a thousand eyes can't help but see if you are true to me
So remember when you tell those little white lies
That the night has a thousand eyes

Here's my story, its sad but true
It's about a girl that I once knew
She took my love then ran around
With every single guy in town

Ah, I should have known it from the very start
This girl would leave me with a broken heart
Now listen people what I'm telling you
A-keep away from-a Runaround Sue

Runaround Sue

runaround ... "that girl would leave me"

Same words, different thought. Wink. The link is in the chorus, and since that chorus may be too short to give much scope for more links, I'm including the verses too.

Ramblin' around this dirty old town, / Singin' for nickels and dimes.
Times gettin' rough, I ain't got enough, / To buy me a bottle of wine.

(chorus)
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine, / When you gonna let me get sober?
Leave me alone, let me go home, / Let me go home and start over.

A pain in my head, there's bugs in my bed, / My pants are so old that they shine.
Out on the street, I beg the people I meet, / To buy me a bottle of wine.

1)When this old world gets me down and there's no love to be found
I close my eyes and soon I find I'm in a playground in my mind
Where the children laugh and the children play
And we sing a song all day

2)My name is Michael, I've got a nickel, I've got a nickel shiny and new
I'm gonna buy me all kinds of candy, that's what I'm gonna do.

"Playground in My Mind" Words & Music by Paul Lance & Lee Pakriss
Sung by Clint Holmes, #2 on the Billboard chart in 1973

I found me a girl ... I found me a teacher

A bit of background here. My all-time favorite comedy movie is The Court Jester starring Danny Kaye, and my favorite bit in that movie is his song The Maladjusted Jester. While seaching for a linking lyric I was delighted to find further verses in that song, verses that don't appear in the movie. The lyrics are by Sylvia Fine; she and Danny were husband and wife.

I sadly decided that dancing as I did
To sing was a thing that was surer
I found me a teacher a crotchety creature
Who used to sing coloratura
She twisted my chin pushed my diaphragm in
With a poker she vocalized me
When she said it was best that I threw out my chest
You may gather that rather surprised me

You may gather the stars
Choose the brightest of them from the skies
None of them can compare
To the glow that I see in his eyes

"To the glow that I see in his eyes"

Glow, little glow-worm, fly of fire,
Glow like an incandescent wire,
Glow for the female of the specie,
Turn on the A-C and the D-C

Glow-Worm (Glimmer-Glimmer) - Big hit for both Johnny Mercer(as a vocalist) and the Mills Bros.

Inch worm, inch worm
Measuring the marigolds
Seems to me you'd stop and see
How beautiful they are

I never thought about that line. Wonder if the lyricist intended a double-entendre on AC/DC?

If I'm smart then I'll run away
But I'm not so I guess I'll stay
Haven't you heard
I fell in love with a beautiful stranger

I looked into your face
My heart was dancing all over the place
I'd like to change my point of view
If I could just forget about you.

beautiful.......my heart

I left my heart in San Francisco
High on a hill, it calls to me.
To be where little cable cars
climb halfway to the stars!

High on a hill sits a big old house
With something wrong inside it
Spirits haunt the halls
And make no effort now to hide it

What will put their souls to rest
And stop their ceaseless sighing
Why do they call out children's names
And speak of one who's crying

~~House Upon the Hill
from the Secret Garden Soundtrack

Look who's laughing now that you've wasted
How many years and you've barely even tasted
Anything remotely close to
Everything you've boasted about
Look who's crying now

Driftwood floats, after years of erosion
Incoming tide touches roots to expose them,
Quicksand steals my shoe,
Clouds bring the f-stop blues

Artist: Jack Johnson
Album: Brushfire Fairytales
Song: F-Stop Blues

You always had to be the kind
To have to say what's on your mind
And hey, you really showed 'em how
You used to laugh about
How you used to dish it out
But hey, who's laughing now
