blue ... dream in my heart

I'll keep rememberin' kisses
From lips I've never owned,
And all that lovely adventures
That we have never known.

One dream in my heart,
One love to be livin' for,
One love to be livin' for
This nearly was mine.

I remember watching South Pacific and sobbing all through that song Frown.

"Dream, dream, dream" All I Have to do is Dream by the Everley Brothers (that site has a nice picture and the entire song sung by the Everley Brothers Smile).

dream in my heart ... lovely adventures / That we have never known

I've just seen a face
I can't forget the time or place
Where we just met. She's just the girl for me
And I want all the world to see
We've met, mmm-mmm-mmm-m'mmm-mmm.

I have never known
The like of this, I've been alone
And I have missed things and kept out of sight
But other girls were never quite like this,
Da-da-n'da-da'n'da.
Falling, yes I am falling,
And she keeps calling
Me back again.

have never known ... out of sight

Help Me Make It Through The Night

Words & Music by Kris Kristofferson, sung by Sammi Smith; # 8 on the pop charts, # 1 on the country charts, 1971.

Take the ribbon from my hair
Shake it loose and let it fall
Layin' soft against your skin
Like the shadow on the wall

Come and lay down by my side
Till the early mornin' light
All I'm takin' is your time
Help me make it through the night

I don't care what's right or wrong
'n' I won't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord, tonight I need a friend

Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night

<brief humming-first two lines of a verse>

And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night
I don't want to be alone
Help me make it through the night

out of sight . . . shadow

Moon Shadow . . . Cat Stevens

Yes
I'm bein' followed by a moon shadow
moon shadow, moon shadow.
Leapin' and hoppin' on a moon shadow
moon shadow, moon shadow.

And if I ever lose my hands
lose my power, lose my land -
Oh if I ever lose my hands
Ooh . . . I won't have to work no more.

And if I ever lose my eyes
if my colours all run dry
Yes if I ever lose my eyes
Ooh . . . I won't have to cry no more.

Yes I'm bein' followed by a moon shadow
moon shadow, moon shadow.
Leapin' and hoppin' on a moon shadow
moon shadow, moon shadow.

And if I ever lose my legs
I won't moan and I won't beg
Oh if I ever lose my legs
Ooh . . . I won't have to walk no more.

And if I ever lose my mouth
all my teeth North and South
Yes if I ever lose my mouth
Ooh . . . I won't have to talk . . .

shadow ... won't have to work

Won’t it be wonderful after the war!

sung by Carl Sandburg (in "Carl Sandburg Sings His American Songbag")

Oh, won’t it be wonderful after the war.
There won’t be no rich and there won’t be no poor.
We’ll all get a pension about twenty-four,
And we won’t have to work if we find it a boor.

Oh, won’t it be wonderful after the war.
There won’t be no sick and there won’t be no sore.
The beer will be quicker and better and more.
And there’s only one avenue I’d like to explore:
Why didn’t we have this old war before?

Moonshadow Cat Stevens

Oh, I'm bein' followed by a moonshadow, moonshadow, moonshadow

And if I ever lose my hands, lose my plough, lose my land,
Oh if I ever lose my hands, Oh if.... I won't have to work no more.
And if I ever lose my eyes, if my colours all run dry,
Yes if I ever lose my eyes, Oh if.... I won't have to cry no more.

Did it take long to find me? And are you gonna stay the night?

Di! That's the song Tin was linking to! I'll go back to his song, then, and link a different word. Wink

won't have to work . . . wonderful (thins link seems appropriate, since I'm on vacation this week. Big Grin

What a Wonderful World sung by Louis Armstrong and others, too, I'm sure.

I see trees of green........ red roses too
I see ’em bloom..... for me and for you
And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue..... clouds of white
Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world.

The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky
Are also on the faces.....of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands.....sayin’.. how do you do
They’re really sayin’......i love you.

I hear babies cry...... I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more.....than I’ll never know
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world

Done Smile!

He gave me a new song
He really came down here
Himself and sang it for me
In every key
Just for me he gave me a new light,
Now even when clouds hide the sun my life is still bright
'Cause everything's alright
He gave me a new song
He really came down here
Himself and sang it for me
In every key
Just for me
He gave me a love song
Yes it's the first real love song given to me
And oh, what a melody.

new song . . . sing/song

from Sesame Street . . .
Sing written by Joe Raposo

Sing,
sing a song
Sing out loud,
sing out strong
Sing of good things, not bad
Sing of happy, not sad

Sing,
sing a song
Make it simple
to last your whole life long
Don't worry that it's not good enough
For anyone else to hear
Just sing
Sing a song

Don't Worry, Be Happy
Bobby McFerrin

Here is a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry be happy
In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy......

Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't worry, be happy
The land lord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don't worry, be happy
Lood at me I am happy
Don't worry, be happy
Here I give you my phone number
When you worry call me
I make you happy
Don't worry, be happy
Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got not girl to make you smile
But don't worry be happy
Cause when you worry
Your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don't worry, be happy (now).....

There is this little song I wrote
I hope you learn it note for note
Like good little children
Don't worry, be happy
Listen to what I say
In your life expect some trouble
But when you worry
You make it double
Don't worry, be happy......
Don't worry don't do it, be happy
Put a smile on your face
Don't bring everybody down like this
Don't worry, it will soon past
Whatever it is
Don't worry, be happy

LOL Tinman - cool!

I love Bobby McFerrin! Have you heard his album "HUSH"? Fabulous work!

don't worry . . . happy

Happy Talk from _South Pacific_ by Rodgers and Hammerstein

Happy talk, keep talkin' happy talk,
Talk about things you'd like to do.
You got to have a dream,
If you don't have a dream,
How you gonna have a dream come true?

Talk about the moon floatin' in the sky
Lookin' at a lily on the lake;
Talk about a bird learnin' how to fly.
Makin' all the music he can make.

Talk about the sparrow lookin' like a toy
Pickin' through the broaches of a tree;
Talk about the girl, talk about the boy
Countin' all the ripples on the sea.

Talk about the boy sayin' to the girl:
"Golly, baby, I'm a lucky cause."
Talk about the girl sayin' to the boy:
"You an' me is lucky to be us!"

If you don't talk happy,
And you never have dream,
Then you'll never have a dream come true!

A different take on sparrows, here. Big Grin
Talk about the sparrow......get a sparrow with a bow and arrow

Irving Berlin, Anything You Can Do
Duet by Annie (red) and Frank (blue)

Anything you can do I can do better. ..... I can do anything better than you.
No, you can't.
Yes, I can.
No, you can't.
Yes, I can.
No, you can't.
Yes, I can, yes, I can.

Anything you can be I can be greater. ..... Sooner or later I'm greater than you.
I can shoot a partridge with a single cartridge.
I can get a sparrow with a bow and arrow.
I can live on bread and cheese. And only on that? Yes. So can a rat.

I can drink my liquor faster than a flicker.
I can do it quicker and get even sicker.
I can open any safe. Without being caught? Sure. That's what I thought (you crook).

Anything you can wear I can wear better. ..... In what you wear I'd look better than you.
In my coat. In your vest.
In my shoes. In your hat.
No, you can't.
Yes, I can, yes, I can.

I can jump a hurdle. I can wear a girdle.
I can knit a sweater. I can fill it better.
I can do most anything. Can you bake a pie? No. Neither can I.

"Yes, I Can Feel It"
~Kingston Trio

Sweet is the kiss on the lips of the lover. Warm as the breath of the wind in the summer.
Bitter is the taste of good-bye on the 'morrow. So must it be, both of joy and of sorrow.

[Chorus:]
Yes, I can feel it like the wind in the summer. Yes, I can feel it every time I am with her.
Yes, I can feel it like good byes on the 'morrow. Yes, I can feel it both of joy and of sorrow.

yes I can . . . sweet kisses

KISSES SWEETER THAN WINE by Peter, Paul and Mary

When I was a young man and never been kissed
I got to thinking it over what I had missed.
I got me a girl, I kissed her and then
Oh lord, I kissed her again.

Chorus:
Oh, kisses sweeter than wine,
Oh, kisses sweeter than wine

I asked her to marry and be my sweet wife,
And we would be so happy the rest of our lives.
I begged and I pleaded like a natural man,
And then, oh lord, she gave me her hand.

(chorus)

I worked mighty hard and so did my wife,
Workin’ hand in hand to make a good life.
With corn in the field and wheat in the bins,
I was, oh lord, the father of twins.

(chorus)

Our children they numbered just about four,
They all had sweethearts knockin’ at the door.
They all got married and they didn’t hesitate;
I was, oh lord, the grandmother of eight.

(chorus)

Now that we’re old, and ready to go,
We get to thinkin’ what happened a long time ago.
We had a lot of kids, trouble and pain,
But, oh lord, we’d do it again.

(chorus)

worked mighty hard ... mighty hard row

Woody Guthrie, Pastures Of Plenty:

It's a mighty hard row that my poor hands have hoed.
My poor feet have traveled a hot dusty road,
Out of your Dust Bowl and Westward we rolled.
Your deserts were hot and your mountains were cold.

I worked in your orchards of peaches and prunes.
I slept on the ground in the light of the moon.
On the edge of the city you'll see us and then
We come with the dust and we go with the wind.

California, Arizona, I harvest your crops.
Well its North up to Oregon to gather your hops
Dig the beets from your ground, cut the grapes from your vine
To set on your table your light sparkling wine.

Green pastures of plenty from dry desert ground,
From the Grand Coulee Dam where the waters run down.
Every state in the Union us migrants have been.
We'll work in this fight and we'll fight till we win.

It's always we rambled, that river and I.
All along your green valley, I'll work till I die.
My land I'll defend with my life if it be;
My pastures of plenty must always be free.

The words and music for Kisses Sweeter Than Wine were by Paul Campbell & Joel Newman, and the song was first sung by the Weavers in 1951. Jimmy Rodgers recorded it in 1957 and that is the version I remember. In the original and in Rodgers' recording the word "grandfather" appeared rather than "grandmother." I think (if I remember right) Mary Travers delivered that line solo and logically changed the "grandfather" to "grandmother."

"Paul Campbell" was the group pen name of the Weavers, and "Joel Newman" was the pen name for Huddie Ledbetter (Leadbelly).

Very cool info, Tinners! Thanks!

very hard row . . . rambled

THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND (even has a midi file!)
words and music by Woody Guthrie

Chorus:
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me

As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

The sun comes shining as I was strolling
The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there
And that sign said - no tress passin'
But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!

Chorus

In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office - I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.

Chorus (2x)

Re CW's song: This parody appeared during the US election. It's much better if you download the cartoon movie, with pictures and lyrics (click on the 'This Land' link). A very slow download, but worth waiting for if you do something else while it loads.
Colors: George W. Bush; John Kerry

[Bush, pointing on a map.]
This land [points to Mass-uh-chew-sits] is your land, this land [Texas] is my land,
I'm a Texas tiger, you're a liberal weiner,
I'm a great crusader, you're a Herman Munster!
This land will surely vote for me.

[Kerry]
This land is your land [points to trailer park], this land is my land [points to mansion],
I'm an intellectual, you're a stupid dumbass,
I'm a Purple Heart winner, and yes its true I won it thrice!
This land will surely vote for me.

You have more waffles than a house of pancakes,
You offer flip flops, I offer tax breaks,
You're a U.N. pussy, and yes its true that I kick ass, hah!
This land will surely vote for me.

You can't say "nuclear", that really scares me,
Sometimes a brain can come in quite handy,
But its not gonna help you, because I won three purple hearts!
This land will surely vote for me.

You're a liberal sissy! You're a right wing nut job!
You're a pink coat commy! You're as dumb as a doorknob!
Hey, you got that Botox. But I still won three purple hearts!
Both: This land will surely vote for me!

Native American: This land was my land...
Chorus: But now its our land!
Arnold Schwarzenegger: From California,
Bill Clinton: To the New York Is... [Hilary slaps him]
From the liberal weiners, To the right wing nut jobs,
This land belongs,
This land belongs,
Both: This land belongs to you and me.

Oh and Dick Cheney too!

Oh, Hic - yes! I'd almost forgotten about that, and it's so funny! We must have watched that a dozen times when we found it. thanks!

I have another song about songs . . . it's been rattling through my brain for a week, at least.

rambled . . . skyway (sky)

One Little Song
recorded by Gillian Welch

There’s gotta be a song left to sing
Cause everybody can’t of thought of everything
One little song that ain’t been sung
One little rag that ain’t been wrung out completely yet
Gotta a little left

One little drop of fallin rain
One little chance to try again
One little bird that makes it every now and then
One little piece of endless sky
One little taste of cherry pie
One little week in paradise and I start thinkin’

There’s gotta be a song left to sing
Cause everybody can’t of thought of everything
One little note that ain’t been used
One little word ain’t been abused a thousand times
In a thousand rhymes

One little drop of fallin rain
One little chance to try again
One little bird that makes it every now and then
One little piece of endless sky
One little taste of cherry pie
One little week in paradise and I start thinkin’

Gotta be a song left to sign
Cause everybody can’t of thought of everything
One little song that ain’t been sung
One little rag that ain’t been wrung out completely yet
Till there’s nothing left

DING!!!!!! No linking to yourself, CW! So I'm going back to This Land is Your Land.

as I was strolling ... While strolling through the park

While strolling through the park one day,
In the merry month of May,
I was taken by surprise by a pair of roguish eyes,
In a moment my poor heart was stole away.

Okay! Okay! Sorry! Big Grin

strolling through the park . . . . my poor heart

Don't expect too much from my poor old heart,
You can blame me unforgiven for my scars,
you might just be the best that I can find,
but I can't seem to forget the tears I've cried,
I don't know that I will ever trust again,
it's a price I must pay for all my sins,
Time has changed me and left me full of doubt,
and my heart may be lost never to be found.

My Poor Old Heart sung by Alison Krauss

I was taken by surprise... taken by surprise

Outfield - Taken By Surprise Lyrics

Album: Voices Of Babylon

J. spinks, t. lewis

She wakes me up in the middle of the night
When i'm rolling over - rolling over
She keeps on asking is there something on my mind - i know
She's getting close just a little too closer - and yet
Secrets are hard form me to hide
'cos i never know what she might find
Telling her lies
Taken by surprise - taken by surprise yeah

She calls me up every minute of the day
It's like she's checking me over - always over my should and then
We talk and talk until there's nothing left to say
But she won't leave me alone every night
She never says what's on her mind
And the way it looks - well i know she ain't blind
Telling her lies
Taken by surprise - taken by surprise yeah

wakes me up in the middle of the night ... In the middle of the night I go walking

In the middle of the night
/ I go walking in my sleep
From the mountains of faith / To the river so deep
I must be lookin' for something / Something sacred I lost
But the river is wide / And it's too hard to cross

In the middle of the night / I go walking in my sleep
Through the jungle of doubt / To the river so deep
I know I'm searching for something / Something so undefined
That it can only be seen / By the eyes of the blind / In the middle of the night

In the middle of the night / I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of the truth / To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean / We all start in the streams
We're all carried along / By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

in the middle of the night I go walking . . . . the river is wide

The river is wide; I can't cross o'er,
And neither have I wings to fly.
Give me a boat that can carry two,
And both shall row, my love and I.

A ship there is, she sails the sea,
She's loaded deep, as deep can be.
But not as deep as the love I'm in;
I know not how I sink or swim.

she's loaded ... he's loaded Wink

I sat down on a log, took her on my lap
She said: "Wait a minute, bub, you got to see my pap,
He's got a 16-gauge choked down like a rifle
He don't like a man that's a-gonna trifle.
Shot-gun Boogie draws a bead so fine ...
Look out big boy, he's loaded all the time.

Well, I called on her pap like a gentleman oughter
He said: "No brush hunter's gonna get my daughter."
He cocked back the hammer right on the spot
When the gun went off, I outran the shot.
Shot-gun Boogie. I wanted wedding bells.
I'll be back little gal, when your pappy runs out of shells.

We're gonna break it down baby now,
Ya gonna load it up baby now,
Ya gonna shoot em for they run now

Shotgun ... when

Seanahan's Churchill quote reminded me of this song by Homer and Jethro. It's a parody of "Crying Time."

Lying Time

I staggered home at three o’clock this mornin’.
I was feelin’ higher than a Georgia pine.
My old lady clobbered me without a warnin’,
So it won’t be long before it’s lyin’ time.

She said, “You’re the drunkest man I’ve ever seen.”
I said, “Woman, you’re so ugly, it’s a shame.
When I wake up tomorrow I’ll be sober,
But when you wake up you’re gonna look the same.

There's more to it, but that's all I remember.

when . . . tomorrow

Make me down a pallet on your floor
Make me down a pallet on your floor
Make me down a pallet soft and low
When I'm broke and I got no place to go.

Weary blues are everywhere I see
Weary blues are everywhere I see
Weary blues are everywhere I see
No one's ever had the blues like me.

Way I'm sleepin my back and shoulder's tired
Way I'm sleepin my back and shoulder's tired
Come tomorrow I'll be satisfied
If I can catch that fast train and ride.

Very old song . . . but I know it as recorded by Gillian Welch. I did find this site that seems to have a history of it's recording.

catch that fast train ... to Georgia on a fast train

On a rainy Wednesday morning that's the way that I was born in
That old sharecropper's one room country shack.
They said my mommie left me the day before she had me
Said she hit the road and never once looked back.
And I just like to mention my grandma's old age pension
Is the reason why I'm standing here today.
I got all my country learning a-milking and a-churning,
Picking cotton, raisin' hell and baling hay.
I been to Georgia on a fast train honey I wouldn't born no yesterday.
I got a good Christian raisin' and an eighth grade education
Ain't no need in y'all a treatin' me this way.

Now sweet Carolina I don't think I'll ever find a-
nother woman put together like you are.
I like your wiggle in your walking and your big city talking
And your brand new shiny Plymouth ragtop car.
Well it's hurry up and wait in this land of give and take
It seems like haste it makes for waste everytime.
I declare to my soul when you hear those ages roll
You better know I'm gonna get my share of mine.
I been to Georgia on a fast train honey I wouldn't born no yesterday
I got a good Christian raisin' and an eighth grade education
Ain't no need in y'all a treatin' me this way.

- By Billy Joe Shaver; also recorded by Willie Nelson

Look At Miss Ohio by Gillian Welch

Oh me oh my oh, look at Miss Ohio
She's a-running around with her rag-top down
She says I wanna do right but not right now

Gonna drive to Atlanta and live out this fantasy
Running around with the rag-top down
Yeah I wanna do right but not right now

Had your arm around her shoulder, a regimental soldier
An' mamma starts pushing that wedding gown
Yeah you wanna do right but not right now

Oh me oh my oh, would ya look at Miss Ohio
She's a-runnin' around with the rag-top down
She says I wanna do right but not right now

ragtop ... Oh me oh my

Ain't She Sweet
Music by Milton Ager; lyrics by Jack Yellen
Written in 1927, recorded by many, including the Beatles in 1961.

Oh ain't she sweet,
Well see her walking down that street.
Yes I ask you very confidentially:
Ain't she sweet?

Oh ain't she nice,
Well look her over once or twice.
Yes I ask you very confidentially:
Ain't she nice?

Just cast an eye in her direction.
Oh me oh my, ain't that perfection?

Oh I repeat,
Well don't you think that's kind of neat?
Yes I ask you very confidentially:
Ain't she sweet?

I like it, tinman! So I found something from the same period.

walking down the street ... strolling down the avenue
    Me and my shadow,
    Strolling down the avenue,
    Me and my shadow,
Not a soul to tell our troubles to . . .

    And when it's twelve o'clock,
    We climb the stair,
    We never knock,
    For nobody's there . . .

    Just me and my shadow,
All alone and feelin' blue . . .
Me and My Shadow, music by Al Jolson and Dave Dreyer, lyrics by Billy Rose, 1927
(There are more complete lyrics here, but the midi is far worse.)

strolling down the avenue . . . . on the stair

Each time I see a crowd of people
Just like a fool I stop and stare
It's really not the proper thing to do
But maybe you'll be there
I go out walking after midnight
Along the lonely thoroughfare
It's not the time or place
To look for you
But maybe you'll be there
You said your arms would always hold me
You said you lips were mine alone to kiss
Now after all those things you told me
How can it end like this
Someday if all my prayers are answered
I'll hear a footstep on the stair
With anxious heart
I'll hurry to the door
And maybe you'll
Be there

"Maybe You'll Be There" sung by Diana Krall, Words & Music by Sammy Gallop & Rube Bloom, 1947

This is too easy!

on the stair . . . I go out walking after midnight

Walkin` After Midnight
by Patsy Cline
written by Don Hecht and Alan Block, 1957

I go out walking after midnight
Out in the moonlight
Just like we used to do
I'm always walking after midnight
Searching for you

I walk for miles along the highway
Well, thats just my way
Of saying I love you
I'm always walking after midnight
Searching for you

I stop to see a weeping willow
Crying on his pillow
Maybe he's crying for me
And as the skies turn gloomy
Night winds whisper to me
I'm lonesome as I can be

I go out walking after midnight
Out in the starlight
Just hoping you may be
Somewhere walking after midnight
Searching for me

I stop to see a weeping willow
Crying on his pillow
Maybe he's crying for me
And as the skies turn gloomy
Night winds whisper to me
I'm lonesome as I can be

I go out walking after midnight
Out in the starlight
Just hoping you may be
Somewhere walking after midnight
Searching for me

walking . . . walking . . .

You keep saying you've got something for me.
something you call love, but confess.
You've been messin' where you shouldn't have been a messin'
and now someone else is gettin' all your best.

These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do
one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.

"Something Stupid"
(feat. Nicole Kidman)

I know I stand in line
Until you think you have the time
To spend an evening with me
And if we go someplace to dance
I know that there's a chance
You won't be leaving with me

Then afterwards we drop into a quiet little place
And have a drink or two
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid
Like I love you

I can see it in your eyes
That you despise the same old lines
You heard the night before
And though it's just a line to you
For me it's true
And never seemed so right before

I practice every day to find some clever
lines to say
To make the meaning come true
But then I think I'll wait until the evening
gets late
And I'm alone with you

The time is right
Your perfume fills my head
The stars get red
And oh the night's so blue
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid
Like I love you

I love you...

Jerry's post is earlier than CW, so how did it get under? Anyhow, responding to Jerry here.

something stupid ... something to me
    You do something to me
    Something that simply mystifies me
Tell me, why should it be,
You have the power to hypnotize me?

Let me live 'neath your spell
Do do that voodoo that you do so well
For you do something to me
    That nobody else could do

    - You Do Something To Me, Cole Porter, 1929 (for the musical Fifty Million Frenchmen)

something to me . . . spell

I put a spell on you
And now you're mine
You can't stop the things I do
I ain't lyin'

It's been three hundred years
Right down to the day
Now the witch is back
And there's hell to pay

I put a spell on you
And now you're mine!

I put a spell on you
And now you're gone
(Gone gone gone, so long!)
My whammy fell on you
And it was strong
(So strong, so strong, so strong!)

I Put a Spell on You as sung by Bette Midler in Hocus Pocus

Relentlessly cheerful here!
because you're mine ... jsimply because
Musical demons set my honey a-screeming.
Won't you play me some rag?
    Just change that classical nag
To some sweet musical drag. ... Won't you
Play from a copy, of a tune that is choppy.
You'll get all my applause, simply because
    I wanna' listen to rag.

simply because . . .

I'm in the mood for love
simply because you're near me
Funny, but when you're near me
I'm in the mood for love

Heaven was in your eyes,
bright as the stars we're under
Or is it any wonder,
I'm in the mood for love . . .

I'm in the mood for love as sung by Frank Sinatra

simply because . . . Heaven

Cheek to Cheek

Heaven... I'm in heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak.
And I seem to find the happiness I seek,
When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek.

Heaven... I'm in heaven,
And the cares that hung around me through the week,
Seem to vanish like a gambler's lucky streak,
When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek.

Oh, I love to climb a mountain,
And to reach the highest peak.
But it doesn't thrill me half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek.

Oh, I love to go out fishing
In a river or a creek.
But I don't enjoy it half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek.

Dance with me! I want my arms about you.
The charms about you
Will carry me through to...

Heaven... I'm in heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak.
And I seem to find the happiness I seek,
When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek.

From the 1935 musical Top Hat
Music and words by Irving Berlin
Sung by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers

heaven . . . dancing . . . dance

S-s-s-s A-a-a-a F-f-f-f E-e-e-e T-t-t-t Y-y-y-y
Safe, dance!

We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine
I say, we can go where we want to
A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind
And we can dance

We can go when we want to
The night is young and so am I
And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet
And surprise 'em with the victory cry
Say, we can act if want to
If we don't nobody will
And you can act real rude and totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile

we can dance ... you can dance

You can dance
Every dance with the guy who gives you the eye; let him hold you tight.
You can smile
Every smile for the man who held your hand 'neath the pale moonlight.
But don’t forget who’s taking you home, and in whose arms you’re gonna be.
So darling save the last dance for me.

Oh I know
That the music’s fine, like sparkling wine; go and have your fun.
Dance and sing,
But while we’re apart don’t give your heart to anyone.
And don’t forget who’s taking you home, and in whose arms you’re gonna be.
Oh darling save the last dance for me.

Baby don’t you know I love you so, can’t you feel it when we touch?
I will never, never let you go, I love you oh, so much.

You can dance,
Go and carry on, ‘till the night is gone and it’s time to go.
If he asks,
If you’re all alone can he take you home, you must tell him no.
And don’t forget who’s taking you home, and in whose arms you’re gonna be.
Oh darling, save the last dance for me.

Save the Last Dance For Me, Mort Shuman (music) and Jerome (Doc) Pomus (lyrics)

RELEASE ME

Please release me, let me go
’cause I don’t love you anymore
And to live without love is a sin
So release me and let me love again
I have found a new love, dear
And I’ll always want him near
His lips are warm while yours are cold
So release me, my darlin’ let me go

Oh please release me, let me go
’cause I just won’t love you anymore
And to live together we both know is a sin
So release me, release me and let me love again

Oh, please, please, please, please
Release me, let me go
’cause I, I don’t love you anymore
And to live together is a sin
So release me and let me love again

Oh, please release me, let me go
I don’t love you anymore
And to live together is a sin
So release me and let me love again

-- Dolly Parton
