Tinman alerted me by PM that the words to the previous song, "Courage," are off. I copied them directly from an online site, but I must say, I did wonder. For example: "not enough to cried out in shame" surely didn't sound right; neither did "No heroes and no to blame;" but I didn't know the song and thought it could be some type of country music. I know very little about country music. Also, Tinman says that it should be:

"I promise to do what I can to NOT let it happen again" It also makes much more sense with "not" added!

Here is the link. It is the first song, last verse.

Women...er, women

There lived a certain man in Russia long ago
He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow
Most people looked at him with terror and with fear
But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear
He could preach the bible like a preacher
Full of ecstasy and fire
But he also was the kind of teacher
Women would desire

Ra Ra Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen
There was a cat that really was gone
Ra Ra Rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine
It was a shame how he carried on.

Rasputin - Boney M

I looked for the word Russia and found this song. I think it is the Russian National Anthem:

RUSSIAN LYRICS

Rossiya svyaschennaya nasha dyerzhava
Rossiya lyubimaya nasha strana
Moguchaya volya vyelikaya slava
Tvoyo dostoyan'ye na vsya vryemyena!!!

However, that wouldn't be the best song since nobody could post from it! So, this is my song:

women...Russia

Mother Russia
~ Iron Maiden

Mother Russia how are you sleeping
Middle winter cold winds blow
From the trees the snowflakes drifting
Swirling round like ghosts in the snow

Russia . . . cold winter

Winter
by Connie Kaldor

This has been a long winter
A "things often went wrong" winter
A "you must be strong" winter
One I’d care not to repeat

But it had you in it
It had you in it
It had you in it and you helped make it sweet

It has been a cold winter
A "losing all your hold" winter
"Lies and secrets told" winter
One I’d care not to repeat

But it had you in it
It had you in it
It had you in it and you helped make it sweet

And I don’t want to think
Of how it might have been
All the heartaches and the uphill climbs
Without you on which to lean

This has been a white winter
A "phone calls in the night" winter
A "you better hold on tight" winter
One I’d care not to repeat

But it had you in it
Warm and wondrous you in it
It had you in it and you helped make it sweet

It had you in it
It had you in it
You helped make it sweet

cold weather...Lies and

Smiling Faces Sometimes
~ Joan Osborne

Smiling faces sometimes pretend to be your friend
Smiling faces show no traces of the evil that lurks within
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don't tell the truth, huh
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof

lies and ... pretend

Close your eyes and I'll kiss you,
Tomorrow I'll miss you;
Remember I'll always be true.
And then while I'm away,
I'll write home ev'ry day,
And I'll send all my loving to you.

I'll pretend that I'm kissing
The lips I am missing
And hope that my dreams will come true.
And then while I'm away,
I'll write home ev'ry day,
And I'll send all my loving to you.

pretend...dreams will come true

Dreams To Dream
~ by Unknown (Disney)

Dreams to dream
in the dark of the night.
when the world goes wrong
I can still make it right.
I can see so far in my dreams,I'll follow my dreams
until they come true.
come with me you will see what I mean
there's a world inside no one else ever
sees.you will go so far in my dreams somewhere
in my dreams your dreams will come true.
there is a star waiting to guide us shining inside us
when we close our eyes.
dont let go if you stay close to me in my dreams tonight
you will see what I see dreams to dream,
as near as can be inside you and me they always come true.

dreams will come true...eyes

My eyes seek reality
My fingers seek my veins
There's a dog at your back step
He must come in from the rain

I fall 'cause I let go
The net below has rot away
So my eyes seek reality
And my fingers seek my veins

The trash fire is warm
But nowhere safe from the storm
And I can't bare to see
What I've let me be
So wicked and worn

So as I write to you
Of what is done and to do
Maybe you'll understand
And won't cry for this man
'Cause low man is due

Please forgive me...

eyes . . . storm

Ready for the Storm
by Dougie Maclean (one of my all-time faves . . . going to be on tour through here in April from Scotland) This song has also been recorded by Kathy Mattea and again by Rich Mullins.

The waves crash in the tide rolls out
It's an angry sea but there is no doubt
That the lighthouse will keep shining out
To warn a lonely sailor
And the lightning strikes
And the wind cuts cold
Through the sailor's bones
Through the sailor's soul
'Til there's nothing left that he can hold
Except a rolling ocean

Oh I am ready for the storm
Yes sir ready
I am ready for the storm
I'm ready for the storm

Oh give me mercy for my dreams
'Cause every confrontation seems to tell me
What it really means
To be this lonely sailor
And when the sky begins to clear
The sun it melts away my fear
And I shed a silent weary tear
For those who mean to love me

Oh I am ready for the storm
Yes sir ready
I am ready for the storm
I'm ready for the storm

The distance it is no real friend
And time will take its time
And you will find that in the end
It brings you me
This lonely sailor
And when You take me by the hand
And You love me, Lord, You love me
And I should have realized
I had no reasons to be frightened

Time we brought this back! Smile

Storm...ocean

We get some rules to follow
That and this, these and those
No one knows
We get these pills to swallow
How they stick in your throat
Tastes like gold
Oh what you do to me
No one knows

I realize you're mine
Indeed a fool am I

I journey through the desert
Of the mind, with no hope
I follow
I drift along the ocean
Dead lifeboat, in the sun
And come undone
Pleasantly caving in
I come undone

ocean . . . swallow

I'm Being Swallowed by a Boa Constrictor, lyrics by Shel Silverstein, as sung by Peter, Paul and Mary.

I'm being swallowed by a boa constrictor
I'm being swallowed by a boa constrictor
I'm being swallowed by a boa constrictor
And I don't like it very much!

Oh no, oh no, he swallowed my toe,
he swallowed my toe
Oh gee, oh gee, he's up to my knee,
he's up to my knee
Oh fiddle, oh fiddle, he's reached my middle,
he's reached my middle
Oh heck, oh heck, he's up to my neck,
he's up to my neck
Oh dread, oh dread, he swallowed my.... schlirppp!

(and no, Jo, I don't think THIS is about giving head, either!)

All of Me

~ Louis Armstrong

You took my kisses and all my love
You taught me how to care
Am I to be just remnant of a one-sided love affair

All you took I gladly gave
There is nothing left for me to save

All of me
Why not take all of me
Can't you see
I'm no good without you
Take my lips
I want to lose them
Take my arms
I'll never use them
Your goodbye left me with eyes that cry
How can I go on dear, without you
You took the part that once was my heart
So why not take all of me

All of Me... Me

Drowning deep in my sea of loathing
Broken your servant I kneel
It seems what's left of my human side
Is slowly changing in me

Looking at my own reflection
When suddenly it changes
Violently it changes (oh no)
There is no turning back now
You've woken up the demon in me

Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Open up your hate, and let it flow into me
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Madness is the gift that has been given to me

Down with the Sickness - Disturbed

Shethinks she is playing this game backwards .... like going around in a circle??????

All My Life's A Circle

by Harry Chapin

All my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown
The moon rolls through the night time
Till the day break comes around
All my life's a circle, but I can't tell you why
The seasons spinning round again
The years keep rolling by.

It seems like I've been here before, I can't remember when
But I got this funny feeling
That we'll all be together again
There's no straight lines that make up my life
And all my roads have bends
There's no clear cut beginnings, and so far no dead ends.

I've found you a thousand times, I guess you've done the same
But then we'll lose each other
It's just like children's games
As I see you here again, the thought runs through my mind
Our friendships like a circle,
Let's go round one more time.

Circles . . .

Will it Go Round In Circles
by Billy Preston

I've got a song, I ain't got no melody
I'ma gonna sing it to my friends
I've got a song, I ain't got no melody
I' ma gonna sing it to my friends

Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky
Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky

I've got a story, ain't got no moral
Let the bad guy win every once in a while
I've got a story, ain't got no moral
Let the bad guy win every once in a while

I've got a dance, I ain't got no steps, no
I'm gonna let the music move me around
I've got a dance, I ain't got no steps
I'm gonna let the music move me around

Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky
Will it go round in circles
Will it fly high like a bird up in the sky

Circle...high

He’s in the bar he’s in your hair
With his sports keyring jangling he’s everywhere
He’s in your view he’s in your face
Straight out of the seventies to straight out of place
His collars turned up high he’s on top of the world
Sliding down the bar he’s always falling falling
With his one good eye he winks at what he thinks is girls
Opens toothless grin and then he’s crawling crawling

And I’m a moving I’m a grooving
And I’m a smooching and he’s a discotheque wreck yeah

He’s in your sight he’s in your pocket
He’s a superfly guy without a superfly rocket
Every night he’s on your case
A terrible reality of disco race

His collars turned up high he’s on top of the world
Sliding down the bar he’s always falling falling
With his one good eye he winks at what he thinks is girls
Opens toothless grin and then he’s crawling crawling
...

high...falling falling

Falling, Falling, Falling
~ Mandy Moore

My heart is breaking, darling
As the many tears are falling
Falling, Falling, Falling just for you
My eyes are burning, darling
While my heart is sad and yearning
Yearning, yearning, burning just for you
You didn`t have to go and leave me all alone
I`m sure you think that breaking hearts are fun
But someday you may find out when your new love is gone
That deep inside your heart I`m still the one

Ring of Fire
~Johnny Cash

Love is a burning thing
and it makes a firery ring
bound by wild desire
I fell in to a ring of fire...

I fell in to a burning ring of fire
I went down,down,down
and the flames went higher.
And it burns,burns,burns
the ring of fire
the ring of fire.

The taste of love is sweet
when hearts like our's meet
I fell for you like a child
oh, but the fire went wild..

I fell in to a burning ring of fire.....[etc]

burning ... sweet

Strange Fruit

-lyrics and music by Abel Meeropol (a.k.a. Lewis Allan), 1936 or 1937; first sung by Billie Holiday in 1939

Southern trees bear a strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black body swinging in the Southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant South,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolia sweet and fresh,
And the sudden smell of burning flesh!

Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for a tree to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

I wrote "Strange Fruit" because I hate lynching, and I hate injustice, and I hate the people who perpetuate it.

-Abel Meeropol (a.k.a. Lewis Allan), 1971.

This song was first written as a poem titled Bitter Fruit in 1936 or 1937 and set to music by the author. The title was later changed to Strange Fruit. He, his wife, and others sang it, and in 1939 he approached Billie Holiday and asked her to sing it. She quickly adopted it as her own.

sweet . . . strange

Strange Brew
~Cream

Strange brew -- kill what’s inside of you.

She’s a witch of trouble in electric blue,
In her own mad mind she’s in love with you.
With you.
Now what you gonna do?
Strange brew -- kill what’s inside of you.

She’s some kind of demon messing in the glue.
If you don’t watch out it’ll stick to you.
To you.
What kind of fool are you?
Strange brew -- kill what’s inside of you.

On a boat in the middle of a raging sea,
She would make a scene for it all to be
Ignored.
And wouldn’t you be bored?
Strange brew -- kill what’s inside of you.

Strange brew, strange brew, strange brew, strange brew.
Strange brew -- kill what’s inside of you.

strange ... If you don’t watch out

Satan's a Liah
sung by Carl Sandburg

Satan's a liah an' a conjuh too;
If you don’ watch out he'll conjuh you;
Satan's a liah and a conjuh too;
If you don’ watch out he'll conjuh you;
Ain' gonna worry my Lawd no mo',
Ain' gonna worry my Lawd no mo'.

Satan's got a might big shoe,
If you don’ watch out, he'll slip on you.
Satan's got a might big shoe,
If you don’ watch out, he'll slip on you.
Ain' gonna worry my Lawd no mo',
Ain' gonna worry my Lawd no mo'.

Goin' to heaven on a angel's wing,
When I get there you'll hear me sing.
Goin' to heaven on a angel's wing,
When I get there you'll hear me sing.
Ain' gonna worry my Lawd no mo',
Ain' gonna worry my Lawd no mo'.

When I get to heaven goin' to sit yah down,
Goin' to put on my robe and starry crown.
When I get to heaven goin' to sit yah down,
Goin' to put on my robe and starry crown.
Ain' gonna worry my Lawd no mo',
Ain' gonna worry my Lawd no mo'.

When I get to . . . . Border

South of the Border (Down Mexico Way)
~Frank Sinatra

South of the border - down Mexico way
That's where I fell in love, where the stars above - came out to play
And now as I wander - my thoughts ever stray
South of the border - down Mexico way

She was a picture - in old Spanish lace
Just for a tender while, I kissed a smile - upon her face
'Cause it was fiesta - and we were so gay
South of the border - Mexico way

Then she smiled as she whispered "ma?na"
Never dreaming that we were parting
Then I lied as a whispered "ma?na"
'Cause our tomorrow never came

South of the border - I jumped back one day
There in a veil of white, by the candle light - she knelt to pray
The mission bells told me (ding-dong) - that I musn't stay
South of the border - Mexico way

Ay! Ay! Ay! Ay!Ay! Ay! Ay! Ay!Ay! Ay! Ay! Ay!Ay! Ay! Ay!

Border...Tender

Tender is the night
Lying by your side
Tender is the touch
Of someone that you love too much
Tender is the day
The demons go away
Lord I need to find
Someone who can heal my mind

Come on, come on, come on
Get through it
Come on, come on, come on
Love’s the greatest thing
Come on, come on, come on
Get through it
Come on, come on, come on
Love’s the greatest thing
That we have
I’m waiting for that feeling
I’m waiting for that feeling
Waiting for that feeling to come

The Little Shoemaker
sung by The Gaylords (Peaked at # 2 in 1954)

Tap, tap, stitch and tap
Making a pair of shoes

Lei scarpini de bailare, bailare.
Bailaremos tutusi.
Lei scarpini de bailare, bailare.
Bailaremos con cosi.

In the shoemaker's shop this refrain would never stop
As he tapped away, working all the day
(At his bench, there was he, just as busy as a bee)
Little time to lose for the boots and shoes

But his heart went "pop" inside the little shop
When a lovely girl set 'em all a-whirl
She had come to choose some pretty dancing shoes
And he heard her say in a charming way

Shoes to set my feet a-dancing, dancing
Dancing, dancing all the day
Shoes to set my feet a-dancing, dancing
Dancing all my cares away

(Then he tapped and he stitched for his fingers were bewitched)
And he sewed a dream into every seam
(Making shoes, oh, so neat just like magic on her feet)
And he hoped she'd know that he loved her so

But she danced, danced, danced as though she were entranced
Like a spinning top all around the shop
On her dainty feet she whirled into the street
And he heard her say as she danced away

Lei scarpini de bailare, bailare.
Bailaremos tutusi.
Lei scarpini de bailare, bailare.
Bailaremos con cosi.

Shoes to set my feet a-dancing, dancing
Dancing all my cares away

All my cares away!!

come . . . dance!

Shall we dance?
On a bright cloud of music shall we fly?
Shall we dance?
Shall we then say "Goodnight and mean "Goodbye"?
Or perchance,
When the last little star has left the sky,
Shall we still be together
With are arms around each other
And shall you be my new romance?
On the clear understanding
That this kind of thing can happen,
Shall we dance?
Shall we dance?
Shall we Dance?

I Could Have Danced All Night

It's after three now.
Don't you agree now,
She ought to be in bed.

Bed! Bed! I couldn't go to bed!
My head's too light to try to set it down!

I understand, dear.
It's all been grand, dear.
But now it's time to sleep.

Sleep! Sleep!
I couldn't sleep tonight.
Not for all the jewels in the crown!
I could have danced all night!
I could have danced all night!
And still have begged for more.
I could have spread my wings
And done a thousand things I've never done before.
I'll never know What made it so exciting;
Why all at once My heart took flight. I only know when he
Began to dance with me I could have danced,
danced, danced all night!

Dancing Queen

You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music’s high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You’re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen

You’re a teaser, you turn ’em on
Leave them burning and then you’re gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You’re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen

Live it up when you get the chance
’cause when the world doesn’t make no sense
And you’re feeling just a little to tense
Gotta loosen up those chains and dance"

dancing . . . .

Heaven, I'm in heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek

Heaven, I’m in heaven
And the cares that hung around me through the week
Seem to vanish like a gambler’s lucky streak
When we’re out together dancing (swinging) cheek to cheek

Irving Berlin

dancing...dancing cheek to cheek

"Queen Of New Orleans"
~Jon Bon Jovi

She said: "Baby our love's just like your songs
The beat ain't bad but the words are all wrong
It's time to pack my bags, it's time to just move on"
She sang: "Johnny, I'm gone, gone, gone"
And she was gone, yeah

Me and Leigh met summer of '95
In a burgundy dress lookin' finer than a French wine
A Cajun queen with another side
She was a schoolboy's dream, I was out of my mind
She was lookin' fine
She said: "You wanna drive me home"
But what I didn't know ......

Ooh, ooh, (shalala) I was dancing with the Queen of New Orleans
Ooh, ooh, (shalala) dancing in the streets of New Orleans
Ooh, ooh, (shalala) dancing cheek to cheek in New Orleans
Ooh, ooh, (shalala) it was almost like a dream (almost like a dream)

dancing cheek to cheek ... dream

Leaving on a Jet Plane
written by John Denver about 1965, popularized by Peter, Paul, and Mary, 1969

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go,
I'm standing here, outside your door.
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye.
But the dawn is breakin', it's early morn',
The taxi's waitin', he's blowin' his horn,
Already I'm so lonesome I could die.

So kiss me and smile for me,
Tell me that you'll wait for me.
Hold me like you'll never let me go.
'Cos I'm leavin' on a jet plane,
Don't know when I'll be back again.
Oh, babe, I hate to go.

There's so many times I've let you down,
So many times, I've played around,
I tell you now, they don't mean a thing.
Ev'ry place I go, I think of you;
Ev'ry song I sing, I sing for you;
When I come back, I'll bring your wedding ring.

So kiss me and smile for me,
Tell me that you'll wait for me.
Hold me like you'll never let me go.
'Cos I'm leavin' on a jet plane,
Don't know when I'll be back again.
Oh, babe, I hate to go.

Now the time has come to leave you,
One more time let me kiss you.
Then close your eyes, I'll be on my way.
Dream about the days to come,
When I won't have to leave alone.
About the times I won't have to say:

Oh, kiss me and smile for me,
Tell be that you'll wait for me.
And hold me like you'll never let me go.
'Cos I'm leavin' on a jet plane,
Don't know when I'll be back again.
Oh, babe, I hate to go.

I'm leavin' on a jet plane,
Don't know when I'll be back again.
Oh, babe, I hate to go.

dream . . . close your eyes

Mary Magdalene's song
Jesus Christ Superstar

Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you, oh.
Don't you know
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine,
And we want you to sleep well tonight.
Let the world turn without you tonight.
If we try, we'll get by, so forget all about us tonight.

Sleep and I shall soothe you, calm you, and anoint you...
Myrrh for your hot forehead, oh.
Then you'll feel
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And it's cool, and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet.
Close your eyes, close your eyes
And relax, think of nothing tonight.

close your eyes ... oh

I know that's a pretty weak link, but I wanted to post this song because it ties in with our discussion of yawn .

I was in college when I first heard "Carl Sandburg sings his American Songbag." I later bought the album and used to sing some of the songs to my kids and pretty soon they sang along. I did this mostly on car trips when I had a captive audience. It also kept them from fighting. One song was a nonsense song ("highbrow folk song," according to Sandburg) called "The Horse Named Bill (or "She Sleeps in the Valley, by Request"). The last line of the fourth verse never failed to make them (and me) yawn. My favorite verse, though, is the last one.

quote:
THE HORSE NAMED BILL
sung by Carl Sandburg
text from Red Lewis of Sauk Center, Minnesota

Oh, I had a horse and his name was Bill.
And when he ran he couldn't stand still.
He ran away -- one day --
And also I ran with him.

He ran so fast he could not stop.
He ran into a barber shop,
And fell exhaustionized -- with his eyeteeth --
In the barber's left shoulder.

I had a gal and her name was Daisy
And when she sang the cat went crazy
With deliriums -- St. Vituses --
And all kinds of cataleptics.

One day she sang a song about
A man who turned himself inside out
And jumped -- into the river --
He was so very sleepy.

I'm going out in the woods next year
And shoot for beer -- and not for deer --
I am -- I ain't --
I'm a great sharpshootress.

At shooting birds I am a beaut.
There is no bird I cannot shoot
In the the eye, in the ear, in the teeth,
In the fin(g)ers.

Oh I went up in a balloon so big,
The people on the earth they looked like a pig,
Like a mice -- like a katydid --like flieses --
And like fleasens.

The balloon turned up with its bottom side higher.
It fell on the wife of a country squire.
She made a noise like a dog hound, like a steam whistle,
And also like dynamite.

Oh what can you do in a case like that?
Oh what can you do but stamp on your hat,
And your toothbrush -- and everything --
That's helpless.

Try singing that and yawning at the same time!

I have to get those songs! I've got some on reserve at the library now - thanks!

I don't know if we've had this song before or not, but I was in a laughing mood, soo . . .

OH . . . woods

Old Time Religion words by Pete Seeger

We will pray to Aphrodite, she's beautiful but flighty.
In her silken see-thru nightie she's good enough for me.

We will pray to Zarathrustra, pray just like we used-to,
I'm a Zarathrustra booster, he's good enough for me.

We will pray just like the Druids, drinking strange fermented fluids,
Go dancing naked through the woods , they're good enough for me.

We will pray to the god Buddha, of gods there is none cuter,
Come in silver, brass or pewter, he's good enough for me.

There are many more verses, some listed on that site that I'd not heard before, and each one makes me giggle.

woods ... pray

The Preacher and the Slave

written by Joe Hill in 1911
sung to the tune of "In the Sweet Bye and Bye"
(p. 222 in The American Songbag by Carl Sandburg, 1927)

Long-haired preachers come out every night,
Try to tell you what's wrong and what's right;
But when asked how 'bout something to eat
They will answer with voices so sweet:

Refrain:

You will eat, bye and bye,
In that glorious land above the sky;
Work and pray, live on hay,
You'll get pie in the sky when you die.

The starvation army they play,
They sing and they clap and they pray
'Till they get all your coin on the drum
Then they'll tell you when you're on the bum:

Holy Rollers and jumpers come out,
And they holler, they jump and they shout.
"Give your money to Jesus," they say,
"He will cure all diseases today."

If you fight hard for children and wife --
Try to get something good in this life --
You're a sinner and bad man, they tell,
When you die you will sure go to hell.

Workingmen of all countries, unite,
Side by side we for freedom will fight:
When the world and its wealth we have gained,
To the grafters we'll sing this refrain:

Last Refrain:

You will eat, bye and bye,
When you've learned how to cook and to fry;
Chop some wood, 'twill do you good,
And you'll eat in the sweet bye and bye.

BABYLON/OH SINNER MAN
New words and music by Peter, Paul & Mary and Bob DeCormier- ©1995 Mapape Lake Music Publishing Co., ASCAP

By the waters, the waters of Babylon
We sat down and wept, and wept for thee Zion
We remember, we remember, we remember thee Zion

Oh, sinner man, where you gonna run to
Oh, sinner man, where you gonna run to
Oh, sinner man, where you gonna run to
All on that day

Run to the rock, rock was a meltin'
Run to the sea, sea was a boilin'
Run to the moon, moon was a bleedin'
Run to the Lord, Lord won't you hide me?
Lord said "Sinner man, you shoulda been a prayin'"

Oh, sinner man, where you gonna run to
Oh, sinner man, where you gonna run to
Oh, sinner man, where you gonna run to
All on that day?

BABYLON/OH SINNER MAN ... man

The Man I Used To Be

Rogers and Hammerstein, 1955 or 1956
from the musical Pipe Dream

The man I used to be,
A happy man was he
And aimless as a leaf in a gale.
What ever has become of that light-hearted bum
Who thought he had the world by the tail?

The man I used to be,
His life was gay and free
And aimless as a cloud in the sky,
He thought he knew the game,
Then along came a dame
Who turned him into some other guy.

Sound like anyone you know?

man / cloud(y) and sky
    Are the stars out tonight?
I don't know if it's cloudy or bright
'Cause I only have eyes for you, dear
    The moon may be high
But I can't see a thing in the sky
'Cause I only have eyes for you.
I Only Have Eyes For You

Sister Moon

by Sting (who is eminently yummy)

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun
My hunger for her explains everything I've done
To howl at the moon the whole night through
And they really don't care if I do
I'd go out of my mind, but for you

For when he prays, he closes his,
    And when he preaches, mine

eyes . . . preacher

Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield

Billy-Ray was a Preacher's son,
And when his daddy would visit he'd come along,
When they gathered round and started talking,
That's when Billy would take me walking,
Through the back yard we'd go walking,
Then he'd look into my eyes,
Lord knows to my suprise:

The only one who could ever reach me,
Was the son of a preacher man,
The only boy who could ever teach me,
Was the son of a preacher man,
Yes he was, he was, oh yes he was.

Love Letters in the Sand

On a day like today
We passed the time away
Writing love letters in the sand

How you laughed when I cried
Each time I saw the tide
Take our love letters from the sand

CHORUS
You made a vow that you would ever be true
But somehow that vow meant nothing to you

Now my broken heart aches
With every wave that breaks
Over love letters in the sand

sand ... my (tenuous, but I'm tired an have got this one in my head!)

Alcoholic kind of mood
lose my clothes, lose my lube
cruising for a piece of fun
looking out for number one
different partner every night
so narcotic outta sight
what a gas, what a beautiful ass.

And it all breaks down at the role reversal,
got the muse in my head she's universal,
spinnin' me round she's coming over me.
And it all breaks down at the first rehearsal,
got the muse in my head she's universal,
spinnin' me round she's coming over me.

Kind of buzz that lasts for days
had some help from insect ways
comes across all shy and coy
just another nancy boy.
Woman man or modern monkey
just another happy junkie
fifty pounds, press my button
going down.

And it all breaks down (...)

my . . . goin down

Out in the Woods as sung by Kristin Vigard (written by Leon Russell)

Goin' down a hard road
Don't know where I've been
I'm walkin round in circles
Can't even find a friend

My love is not waiting
I've been gone too long
People make me crazy
and I can hardly sing my song

Hustlers stand around me
I'm lost and all alone
Can't tell the bad from the good
I'm out in the woods
I'm lost in the woods

Gamblers take my money
Cuz it's useless to me
When I'm lost inside this jungle
Can't see the forest for the trees

My man come and get me
Try me one more time
Your sweet understanding
Can fix this broken heart of mine

Vultures crowd around me
Come and take me home
Can't tell the bad from the good
I'm out in the woods
I'ma lost in the woods

mmmmmmmm I love the blues . . . .

goin down ... alone

Love Is Blue

-Artist: Andy Williams
-Instrumental version by Paul Mauriat was the # 12 song of the 1960-1969 rock
-era and was # 1 for 5 weeks in 1968.
-Vocals that same year were charted by All Martino (# 57) and Andy's wife,
-Claudine Longet (# 71).
--Music by Andre Popp. Lyrics by Pierre Cour. (French) Brian Blackburn (English)

Blue, blue, my world is blue
Blue is my world now I'm without you
Gray, gray, my life is gray
Cold is my heart since you went away

Red, red, my eyes are red
Crying for you alone in my bed
Green, green, my jealous heart
I doubted you and now we're apart

When we met how the bright sun shone
Then love died, now the rainbow is gone

<brief instrumental interlude-chiefly harpsichord and flute>

Black, black, the nights I've known
Longing for you so lost and alone

I lived in a basement apartment at the time and many evenings I could hear my landlord upstairs playing that song on the piano. Ah, sweet memories.

Blue Moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue Moon
You know just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked to the Moon it turned to gold
Blue Moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will ever hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked the Moon had turned to gold
Blue moon
Now I'm no longer alone

Without a love of my own
