I do love summer. We've had the best weather ever. Enjoy this poem, and add your own!

SUMMER FUN

I love the month of August
temperatures riding
as high as a mountain top
nothing else left to wear
but my black bathing suit
and flip flop shoes
with my white goggles
shielding my black eyes

I lay on my back
against the ocean waves
like a flopping starfish
with my head up in the clouds
like watching a movie at a drive in theater

And indulging on a hollow coconut shell
overflowing with sweetened vitamins
while having my feet buried
like sparkling diamonds
in the heated sand

Here's my summer complaint:
Where the heat is, I ain't.

Has it been cold where you are? We have had one of the best summers ever - 70s and 80s, clear, sunny, not too humid and some rain, but not too much (at least lately).

A something in a summer's Day
As slow her flambeaux burn away
Which solemnizes me.

A something in a summer's noon --
A depth -- an Azure -- a perfume --
Transcending ecstasy.

And still within a summer's night
A something so transporting bright
I clap my hands to see --

Then veil my too inspecting face
Lets such a subtle -- shimmering grace
Flutter too far for me --

The wizard fingers never rest --
The purple brook within the breast
Still chafes its narrow bed --

Still rears the East her amber Flag --
Guides still the sun along the Crag
His Caravan of Red --

So looking on -- the night -- the morn
Conclude the wonder gay --
And I meet, coming thro' the dews
Another summer's Day!

I love it, Bethree - but then I love Emily Dickinson.

Fireflies in the Garden
BY ROBERT FROST

Here come real stars to fill the upper skies,
And here on earth come emulating flies,
That though they never equal stars in size,
(And they were never really stars at heart)
Achieve at times a very star-like start.
Only, of course, they can't sustain the part.

I always thought fireflies were a summer tradition everywhere, but my sisters in Arizona never see them. They were so fun to catch when I was a child.

Here is a nice discussion of what many of us didn't know about lightning bugs (fireflies).
