Well it took a while but I think we have enough now to post the Poll for Bonnie Doon, the limericks are:

1
I met a bloke in Bonnie Doon
Who told me to beware "Green Moon",
But the one on the up
For The Melbourne Cup
Is the grey horse, "Puissance De Lune"!

Note: The Melbourne Cup is the biggest horse race in Australia run on the 1st Tuesday in November. Green Moon won the race in 2012 and is expected to run in it again, while Puissance De Lune is one of the favourites for this year's race.

2
There once was a nasty old goon
who de-virginized Bonnie Doon.
From his looks you'd not guess,
But when he'd undress,
Any chick saw his dick, she would swoon.

3
In Oz, in our town Bonnie Doon,
We all have a chaw every noon
By the big reservoir,
Piped to Melbourne afar--
Their pot water is our spittoon!

4
There's a lumberjack in Bonnie Doon
Who'll marry his sweetie in June.
In some Doon vicinity
She'll lose her virginity
In a cabin assembled rough-hewn.

5
Two chimps and a clever baboon
At a zoo in downtown Bonnie Doon
Formed a saxophone band
Though before that they'd planned
To wow with a tenor bassoon.

6
On the edge of Lake Eildon at noon,
I planned to meet sweet Connie Loon,
But she looked so repulsive -
I got all impulsive,
And ran from that town, Bonnie Doon.

7
Down in Oz there's a town, Bonnie Doon,
Where the June silver moon makes one swoon.
Did sweet Heav'n set this scene
So unutt'rably serene?
No, 'twas Rhyme, Doon & June, swoon & moon.

8
A lass who lived in Bonnie Doon
Had an ass that was shaped like the moon.
She would show all the lads,
There'd be oodles and scads
Of moonshots from morning till noon.

Question:
Vote for your favourite now!

Choices:
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8

My choice failed to register despite two tries. Do I need voter ID now?

This is so funny. Big Grin It had been so long that I'd completely forgotten the limerick that I'd written. In fact, I thought it must have been left out. I found the one I liked, but then checked my PMs to make sure I wasn't selecting my own. Sure enough, Of the 8, I liked my own the best! Since it's my policy never to vote for my own, I've voted for my second favorite. So far, no one has chosen mine yet. Oh well, at least I liked it.

Proof, I am not sure why your vote won't register. Arnie, would you know?

How do you know? You can't see the votes beforehand without giving up the vote.

Without enumerating my choice, the one I chose DID NOT REGISTER. I did NOT vote for eight, yet it is the only one with votes.

My screen shows (and this was the case last night, too) that #2 had one vote, #5 has one vote, and #8 has three votes.

OK, I'm now showing those votes and I assume one of them is mine.

Any more votes in the pipeline? Would have to be at least 2 to make it worth keeping the poll open. So I'm thinking I may as well call 5 the winner and we can move onto a new game. What thinketh thee?

As I wrote one of the others with a vote I say keep it open for a month or two!

I think I voted for yours, Bob - it's the most whimsical one.

I just noted that in the forum list it says, "Bluffing Game poll: Bonnie Doo" I've never considered doo as bonnie, but to a dung beatle, perhaps. Roll Eyes

Okay due to the deafening silence, I hereby declare Geoff as the author of No. 8 the winner.

Other contributors were:

1: Me obviously but I've gone off those 2 now, after Saturday's Caulfield Cup, I am convinced that Dandino will win the Melbourne Cup.
2: Geoff - blue enough but didn't make me laugh
3: B35 - Obviously American Hillbillies living down in Oz
4: Proof - Surprised this one didn't get a vote
5: Bob - Loved the images this created in my mind and the only player other than Geoff to collect a vote
6: Kalleh - Don't really like it when a fictitious name is used just to get a rhyme
7: B35 - I would have voted for this one if only because it managed to get "serenity" in there
8: Geoff - runaway winner, I just wonder why the moonshots stopped at noon

OK Geoff, take it away.

I was right, I DID vote for Bob's, but B35's was my next choice. I laughed at them both!

As for moonshots stopping at noon, it's only because it rhymed.

Our preferences are interesting. I don't mind fictitious names, or whatever, at all (obviously, since it was mine), but I have a hard time voting for limericks where you have to say them over and over before you can get the meter to work - though sometimes I must. That was my problem with many of these.

Oh well. Each to his own.

Hi Kalleh,

Actually I agree with you. I think meter is more important than rhyme, and I think the meter problem in most of these including my own, is largely my fault because of the choice of town, where the pronunciation of it doesn't really suit the limerick meter. I actually was surprised how difficult I found it to come up with anything I even remotely liked.
