Given my frame of mind after being told I must keep my leg in plaster for another two weeks giving me just 3 DAYS physio before I fly off to a job where I have a fifty minute round trip walk to get lunch or dinner, I wanted to use Europe's most depressing city (according to the Daily Telegrap) but that turns out to be a place in Belgium called Charleroi which with it's correct pronunciation would be virtually impossible to rhyme in English.

Nevertheless we shall persevere. For the duration of this one competition ONLY I declare that ANY PRONUNCIATION is permissible. I'll figure it out.

sharlrwa? fine by me
Charley-Roy? give it your best shot.

Hell, rhyme it with lemon cheesecake if you want to. I don't care.

Go to it.

I hope you're feeling better!

I'm on the new limerick. Wink

One of my friends just finished her chemotherapy, and a friend wrote a lighthearted poem about it. Then someone wrote a Haiku, another wrote a poem, so I just had to write a limerick. I insisted on rhyming her name in the limerick - "Barbara." Boy, that wasn't easy. I needed all of you!

You should have set a special edition of the limerick game, Kalleh. Perhaps using "Santa Barbara" as the city?

Just two from one so far.
Come on - how much more freedom do you want on rhyming and surely the fact that's it's been declared the most depressing city in Europe must inspire someone.

Bob, I've not heard of that city before. What is the correct pronunciation - even though you'll accept anything?

Kalleh, it's easy to pronounce! Just pinch your nostrils shut, swallow your tongue, then make the sound you'd make if you were vomiting.

I guess it's the Belgian Birmingham, or Detroit, former industrial powerhouses now shuttered, the industry having been moved to China. But then, the pollution has moved there too, so while you can't eat, you can breathe! Big Grin

There are plenty of rhyming or near-rhyming French words that are common in English, such as moi, toi, bourgeois, patois, or pourquoi, and the linguistic term, schwa, or the French play, "Ubu Roi," so it's really not necessary to rhyme it with lemon cheesecake!

B35, aren't you a French teacher? I expect a corker from you!
