Since you've already done Narnia, I propose, for your consideration and creative inspiration, Middle Earth.

Limerick away! PM them to me when you've created.

Hmm. Another toughie. Anapestic in itself but requiring a stressed syllable before it to form a limerick.
Give me a day or two.

Middle Earth? Is there no rest for the weary (or as my mom used to say, for the wicked)?

Hey, Tross! Good to see you.

I will write mine on my flight tomorrow. Sorry it has been so delayed, but I know not much about the book.

I now have lims from Bob, Richard, Jerry and TrossL.

I'll wait a few more days . . .

Wait, wait, wait...

We were supposed to write a lim based on this map book?

Well, mine is totally off base then...

Hahahahaha!

Ok - last call for lims - I'll post them all and choose a winner over the weekend.

Singing . . . "I've got a loverly bunch of limericks (deedle-ee-dee-dee) . . ."

I do enjoy them all, actually, but my favorite is Richard's:
When I travelled to see Middle-earth
I smothered the sounds of my mirth.
All the dwarves wear a beard
Even girls - which is weird.
I hope they know which one gives birth.

Now the others that were submitted:
From Wordmatic:
Middle Earth, where some live--in their minds--
Is the home of elves, dwarfs, and all kinds
Of hobbits and magic
Temptations and tragic
Defeats 'fore the story unwinds.

From Bethree:
The hobbits of old Middle Earth
Were known for their neighborly mirth,
Due to nary a drought
In their stockpile of stout--
To wit also their quite ample girth.

From Kalleh:
My knowledge has always been dearth
Of Tolkien and his middle-earth,
Though "The Lord of the Rings"
And the "Hobbit" are kings,
Providing their readers great mirth!

From Jerry:
From the depth of the dark middle earth
(A western village named Little Perth),
A question came in
About a Strad violin:
How much is an old fiddle worth?

From TrossL:
Tolkien wrote books about Middle Earth.
And I like 'em (whatever that's worth).
But his characters are,
By near and by far,
Mostly male. And the females? -- A dearth!

From Bob:

Said a hobbit, I'm from Middle Earth
Where we sing and we dance with great mirth
But what we do best
Is eat with great zest
Which accounts for our typical girth

Last is my own effort:
From Middle-Earth came one Samwise, who was
Strong ‘n’ brave, despite his size
He strengthened his friend
‘Til the near-tragic end
When the eagles took them through the skies.

This was really fun! Who's next, then? Richard?

Well thank you. Now I'll have to read the book...

I've set up a new competition.

Excellent selection

Really great one, Richard--

(and I see that I once again messed up and failed to put "Middle Earth" in the A-Rhyme position!)
