Since Kalleh did so well with her word from the Grandiloquent Dictionary, I'll see if I can come close to her fooling everyone with one from another obscure source. Annwn? What does it mean? Private Mesage your daffynitions.

Four of you have already supplied daffynitions. Most have supplied more than one. How about one or two from those who haven't PMed me yet?

Five people have now PMed daffynitions. Anyone else? Stanley? Tom? Greg? Anyone else?

Ah, I think I already know the definition of this one, unless I'm getting royally confused with something else. In that case I won't guess, but I'll add an entry anyway if I may! Smile

Well I, on the other hand, have absolutely no clue what that word means, and I don't think I could come up with a daffynition on it. But I would gladly take the missing guess.

How do you even pronounce that dang word?

Knowing the word is no block to guessing. I think I might know it too, but will probably enter. I've found out the hard way in the past that I'm not omniscient! Smile

Yes, Tom, do send me a "daffynition!" Anything that sounds too silly to be possible is a good submission. Annnnd, it's perfectly OK to know the real definition, so long as you don't reveal it until they're all posted.

Arnie is a superb player who has a near-encyclopedic knowledge, but, as he says, even he sometimes gets it wrong. Most of the fun is in the daffynitions, not in getting it right!

That would be shocking headline to read in The Onion

Annwn: The daffynitions - and the real one

1. Per Geoffrey of Monmouth, the Faerie Queene, or her realm.

2. Sanctify. Old English form of "annoint".

3. Welsh dialect word for "elm tree".

4. From Welsh: a steep mountain slope.

5. A disparaging word from Welsh, referring to one who leaves a bar just before it becomes their round.

6. One of the words of the ancient Britons for the underworld.

7. In Greek mythology a vampiric dog-human hybrid.

8. An ancient goblet emanating divine energy.

9. A squat, round house with circular floor and domed roof built by the seasonally migrating Tuscarora.

10. An item of tack used in ancient times by Ubykh horsemen.

11. An ancient druid rite celebrating the vernal equinox.

12. A Welsh delicacy

13. The phlegm produced when ingesting smoke.

Annwn's in there somewhere. Which is it? I'll not do one of those $&^!%#@! polls; just respond with your pick, and maybe a reason for picking it.

It is obviously a trick word and is a combination of numbers 1, 4, 5, and 13. Sir Geoffry, while on a mountain slope, uttered a disparaging word as he coughed up phlegm from the smoke from his fire.

But I'd have to guress 10 since I know all about Lybyka.

I don't think for one second that it's right but if there isn't a "vampiric dog-human hybrid" then there damned well ought to be - I choose 7.

Haha. You guys crack me up. Now I have to clean the coffee off my screen.

Since 7 got a vote, I'm going for 5 even though I am sure that"s not it. Not just a disparaging term, but specific for when a guy leaves a bar when it's. His turn to catch the round. Good daffynitions.
