It was reported in Snopes. It looks like it was one of those auto-corrections.

It was mentioned in Language Log as well.

It's interesting that he took the conversation in another direction - as to the origin of Molotov cocktail, which really was quite interesting. However, it also brought up a new word for me, the cupertino effect, meaning "runaway spellchecking."
