A conversation yesterday...


Me: So, did you enjoy my poetry the other night?
Colleague: Yes. I liked the one that sounded like Edward Lear.
M; (Puzzled) Which one was that?
C: The one about the President.
M: That doesn’t sound like Lear.
C: Who does it sound like, then?
M: Gilbert and Sullivan. It's based on “The Very Model of a Modern Major General”
C: I thought it was like Lear. You know the poem about the periodic table.
M: (Thinks for a moment) Do you mean Tom Lehrer?
C: No, Edward Lear.
M: He didn’t write about the periodic table.
C: What did he write?
M: A lot of limericks and The Pobble Who Has No Toes.
C: Wasn’t that in Alice In Wonderland?
M: No that was by Lewis Carroll

We were watching a '70s program about an adventurer who sailed the South Pacific. My brother was interested to see how it ended but his wife was becoming exasperated waiting so they could leave. Finally she reached her breaking point and said, "Come on. Let's go. You know I don't like Westerns."

I guess she was right since the boat was as far west as you can go.
