How are you dealing with the footnotes?
Personally I always say I'm going to read the book through without reference to them and then again checking them but curiosity always gets the better of me and I find I read the footnotes as I come to them - sometimes even before I come to them - in the text. I'd be interested to know how others deal with them. "No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money." Samuel Johnson. Read all about my travels around the world here. Read even more of my travel writing and poems on my weblog. My new blog - which I hope to keep more up to date than my old one. And don't miss this - my unpublished book, coming a chapter a week |

I'm going directly to the endnotes, and finding them very interesting. (Though I admit to not reading all of the first one, which is very long.) They wouldn't be of much use if read separately.

I haven't started the book yet, but my usual approach is to read them through before the main part of the book. I'll then glance at the footnote to refresh my memory if necessary when I come to it in the book, but not read all the way through it, thus avoiding getting too distracted from the narrative.

Since Shu has our only copy of the book, I haven't started it yet, either. However, I always read them as I go.

Everytime I come to a footnote, I read it, and I find them very useful...though once in awhile a bit tedious.
