hardcopy, or rather hard copy? Or is either one permissible?

If there is such a thing as a hardcopy, what's a softcopy? "Hard copy" seems better to me.

I believe it is hard copy, at least that's how I've always seen it. Geoff, I've not heard of soft copy, either, but apparently there is such a thing. It means information that is displayed on a screen and not printed on paper.

Hard copy: porn mag
Soft copy: sexual dysfunction info.

In my experience: hard copy means physical, printed out document; soft copy means the file that contains the document.

I like hard copy better with the space.

I am wondering if this is a regionalism or perhaps a technical/professional difference or just a difference. I've only heard files with documents called electronic copies. The next time I have to send someone an electronic copy I am going to call it a "soft copy" and see if they know what I mean.

"Woke," "fake news" and "microagression" and "alt right" are pretty common now. Unfortunate for "fake news" being a part of our vernacular, but what are you going to do.

I've used "onboarding" for years.

Several of these words are just adult usage of baby talk.
