Asa, I looked for it in Google, phrasefinder software, and in quotations, and I wasn't able to find it. Coincidentally, I had just used that phrase, referring to the nursing shortage, about 30 minutes before reading this post.
I do think the phrase is right on. |

According to this, it was Allan F. Mogensen in the 1930s.
It's repeated on various other sites I found but verbatim which makes me suspect that all are copied from one source. "No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money." Samuel Johnson.
