Shu and I have mentioned the Oriental Institute on Wordcraft, with glowing reports, and I've even posted some photos from there. Well, in Thursday's WSJ , they had a nice review of "American Egyptologist," which I absolutely plan to read. It is about James Henry Breasted, who came from lowly Rockford, Illinois, but who was a great scholar and historian, having been awarded an honorary degree from the University of Oxford in 1922. I am thinking they don't give those away lightly!

Breasted was instrumental in obtaining funding (through Rockefeller) for the establishment of the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago, which the article describes as "...perhaps the leading center of Egyptology and Assyriology in the world."

Can't wait to read it!

Having been there with Kalleh and Shufitz, I can attest to the excellence of its displays. I could have spent a week in there - and would love to!

I posted this in the wrong place. It should have been under WoBoGro. I looked for my post from last night and couldn't find it and thought I was crazy. I finally found it here!

Sorry about that!
