I have sung the praises of this site to many word-loving friends and co-workers but have been repeatedly told that it is difficult to access. Time and time again, the "this page may not be displayed" message comes up.
I've gotten that message myself several times but find that I can reach this board if I go through a link to it which was sent to me as part of a private topic message. I keep one such message undeleted just for this purpose.
What gives? Any suggestions on how I should be explaining the process to others? (Keep in mind I'm not the most computer-literate coin in the fountain.)
CJ, if you type the usual https://wordcraft.infopop.cc/eve/forums onto a wordprocessor, it will convert to a link that you can click on, a "clickable" link. But my understanding is that it will NOT work, because the site keeps changing with each post. You have to make the link a "hot link", and I don't know how to do that.
But if your friends simply retype (or cut and paste) the above text into their browser window, it should work.
With one caution: some browsers will automatically add "http://" in front of what you type in the window. Thus, if you've also typed it, you have it twice. You have to take care to get it once but only once.
Best is to save the site's address as a "favorite" or "bookmark" (depending on the browser used). You can right-click on this link: https://wordcraft.infopop.cc/eve/forums and choose "Add to favorites" or whatever.
Yes, as we discussed on the chat this weekend, the person absolutely has to type in the "http://", and never "www". Eons ago, when I invited Safi to this forum, it took our e-mailing back and forth several times before he got it right because my computer automatically put the "http://" in the address, but his did not.
