I also found one funny today...and somewhat relevant to Wordcraft; I hope the correct one shows up. It's about poets usually being found in the collection agencies' deadbeat file.

I don't know for sure, but I think the "Can I/May I?" issue is more to the front in America. Virtually everyone here in the UK uses "Can I?" when seeking permission. Many of us are quite well aware that "May I" is favoured, but use "can" anyway; using "may" sounds very formal and old-fashioned.
