America's 100 Best
The Reader's Digest, which is probably not read by many on this forum (for good reason!), has just published America's 100 Best.

As you can see, I am a bit sad about the Chicago Cubs being the "best lost cause." The movies were fairly clear, I think.

However, for our word board, I thought the Best Euphemisms were good; I didn't see these on the Web site:
1. "Non-winner" What the Academy Awards calls the loser.
2. "Bistro service" Pick up your own sandwich while boarding the plane.
3. "Florida's Great Northwest" That would be the Panhandle.
4. "Gaming" Gambling.
5. "Virtual orchestra" Also known as canned music.
6. "Wardrobe malfunction" Losing your top on national TV.

I used to read the German version, Das Beste, for practice in the language if that encourages you at all. Smile

A newfound friend has published in the Reader's Digest, and she's plenty smart. Can't convince her to publish here, though - no money in it! Wink

Well, I do think it selects good articles, and then sometimes I just go back to the original article. Also, the jokes are wonderful! Big Grin

I used to read Selecciones del Reader's Digest every month from cover to cover for practice in Spanish language.

(Hoping that makes you feel even better, KHC)

Senor jerry -

Did I forget to mention that I receive the Latin version of RD at home?

Semi-related sidenote: I once told someone that I subscribed to the plasticized version of Reader's Digest so that I could read it in the shower. She expressed some doubt but I won her over by adding that Reader's Digest and Playboy are the only magazines to publish editions with plastic-covered paper. I was known then, as now, for possessing a vast storehouse of worthless but occasionally interesting knowledge so she bought it.

When I revealed the truth to her (that she was an idiot for believing such B.S.) my chances for dancing the horizontal mambo with this woman plummeted drastically.
