Online Literary Critic
There is a new online literary critic from Chicago who evidently is on the rise. Her site doesn't have the classiest name Roll Eyes, but she apparently is being sought after by authors and publishers so she is doing something right! She is obviously a "book addict," and here are her favorite books:

"Birchwood" by John Banville
"Lanark" by Alasdair Gray
"Troubles" by JG Farrell
"Beirut Blues" by Hanan Al-Shaykh
"Rebecca" by Daphne Du Maurier (a favorite of mine, too)
"Shame" by Salman Rushdie (Yuk!)
"The Winners" by Julio Cortazar
"Of Human Bondage" by W. Somerset Maugham
"Dubliners" by James Joyce
"In Memoriam to Identity" by Kathy Acker

For 2004:

"You Have to Be Careful in the Land of the Free" by James Kelman
"Rent Girl" by Michell Tea and Laurenn McCubbin
"The Plot Against America" by Philip Roth
"Last Chance to Eat: The Fate of Taste in a Fast Food World" by Gina Mallet
"Pillow Talk in Europe and Other Places" by Deborah Levy

Other good book sites according to this article are Beatrice, Chicklit, Bookreporter, and Curledup.

Bookslut - gotta love that! I wonder if I know this person from somewhere, actually. I'll have to investigate.

According to the article she has just moved to Chicago so you may have known her. As for the name, it apparently came from a book group she had been in. Her parents refuse to call it "bookslut.com" and will only say "the site!" Wink

I don't know if they give her background on her Web page, but the article said she had been an English major in college, and in 3 of her classes in the same semester she was to read a book she hated, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." She had already read it of course, having been an avid reader, so she left college and began to work. In her extra time, she started this site. As they say, the rest is history...! Big Grin

I admire people who can keep up things like this. I would start something like that and just wander off after a while - lol.

lol? Little old lady? Lusty, omniverous libido? Leave off lollypops? Latvian ogre lover? Oh.... My mind seems to have wandered off. If you see it, send it home to.... ah... ummm, now who was I...?
