With Geoff's permission, here is the Boring limerick Poll.

1
My adoring imploring in Boring
And endearing, impassioned outpouring
Was quite over the top
And she asked me to stop
The result was my failure in scoring.
************************************************

2
A man who was bored in Boring
Thought he would send a kite soaring
Made of papier-mâché
First, the sky turned dark gray
Then rain, of course, began pouring.
(In America, the first part of papier-mâché is usually pronounced as paper.)
************************************************

3
(How OZ was conceived in an alternative universe)
Writer’s block while visiting Boring,
L. Frank Baum, a balloon he sent soaring
Made of papier-mâché
“Will it float far away?”
Shrieks! “It’s melting!” as rain began pouring!
************************************************

4
My boyfriend who lives out in Boring
Is loving and oh so adoring!
But something's amiss...
In bed when we kiss,
He soon falls asleep and is snoring!
************************************************

5
A girl who grew up in Boring
Read books by Emilie Loring
While her classmates smoked pot
Tender romance she sought
Years later, jaded, she’s whoring
***********************************************

6
In Oregon with the aim of exploring
And if lucky perhaps even scoring -
Down the Drain, got abused,
In Riddle, confused,
But the babes here are so bloody Boring.
************************************************

7
The greatest thing about Boring
Is a law prohibiting snoring
The militia won’t come
Or hack off your thumb
A doctor will do some exploring
***********************************************

8
I read this ad about Boring,
“We don’t care if you’re caught snoring!
Take plenty of naps
You’ll purr like your cats!
Come here to recoup after touring!”
***********************************************

9
I woke up one morning in Boring
The rain outside was just pouring
So I went back to bed
And I covered my head
And soon I was peacefully snoring
************************************************

10
There once was an old man from Boring
Whose favorite pastime was snoring
But once in a while
He woke with a smile
And went out on the town to go whoring
************************************************

11
There was a young lady from Boring
Who set my young foolish hopes soaring
But it wasn’t to be
‘Cause she couldn’t see
The love from my heart that was pouring
************************************************

12
There was an old couple from Boring
Who seemed to be constantly warring
They had a good fight
Every Saturday night
But the look in their eyes was adoring
************************************************

13
I’ve spent so much time in exploring
The mountains and valleys near Boring
Life's always so grand
Not once dull or bland
Where the great Sandy River is roaring
************************************************

14
For fun the girls had to go whoring,
And endure Mrs. Grundy's deploring
While the men worked at drilling
(That's no more fulfilling)
It's certain my hometown was BORING.
***********************************************

15
Ecologists gathered in Boring
Upsetting a bull who went roaring
Chasing Rachel* and Paul*
Also Aldo* et al.
But was only intent on Al Goreing

*Rachel Carson, Paul Ehrlich, Aldo Leopold
********************************************

16
It's finally springtime in Boring
The bees buzz and sword-ferns are sporing
It turns young men's fancy
To dreams of love chancy
And old men's to lewd thoughts of whoring.

Free? I'll adjust for inflation and take 15.

BTW, Robert Heinlein used to invoke Mrs Grundy regularly, also.

Interesting, Hab - Shu was just telling me about a Heinlein book (another one) today.

15 limericks - wow! Good word, Geoff.

Wow, a four-way tie at the moment, ---I thought this was a good batch of limericks! I wonder if we will have a clear winner or if will come down to Geoff choosing the winner?

Hey! You forgot to include mine!

It's finally springtime in Boring
The bees buzz and sword-ferns are sporing
It turns young men's fancy
To dreams of love chancy
And old men's to lewd thoughts of whoring.

Sorry, Beth! I copied from the list and that one wasn't included. I could add it and we could start the vote over again. What does everyone, especially Geoff, since it is his game, think?
Again, my apologies!

For what it's worth I say redo it, if you don't mind, because I want to vote for that one.

Otherwise we could just keep count here of votes for that one, which we could call #16.

If we're going to have a poll at all I suggest we re-start it with #16 included - more Official that way.

I think it's fairer to the new addition, and I don't think the already-voters would mind very much re-casting their votes, not to mention being able to give due consideration to the new entry.

Thank you Sattva. I'm sorry to have screwed things up once again. I'll write them, but not host them from now on. I'm just too damned senile.

Thanks for going to the trouble sattva. Seems I wasn't the only one that liked #16 best, because I just voted for it, and it has shot out to a big lead with 2 of the first 3 re-cast votes.
(Mine wasn't a re-cast vote though as I was still making up my mind and hadn't voted before).

I recasted, but, for the life of me, I couldn't remember which one I originally voted for. I know it's not the one I voted for this time - I must not have been that enthralled with it.

By the way, sattva, good trick putting a bit of the first line in the Options list in the Poll, it makes it much less confusing when looking at the results, to see which one has how many votes.

I liked it too. Was it hard, Sattva?

No, maybe a couple of minutes more work involving scrolling down and back and forth between a word document and the posting page.

Whoa - sattva & tinman very prolific 5 contributions each. Thought by working in the other oddly named towns (Drain & Riddle) that Geoff mentioned might have at least got me one vote from Geoff, but no.

one of the problems I experience when writing a limerick is I never seem quite certain which direction to take it, so I end up with similar themed ones, two with papier-mache, two about snoring, only one though about Emilie Loring. It was the first one I wrote on Boring.

I tried to work in mention of Boring's two sister cities, Dull and Bland. I got the words in, but not the cities.

Tinman, I liked your #'s 12 & 13 best, finally picked 13. Had no idea Dull & Bland were place-names, the linked road-sign images are hilarious.
