Viva Simon Bolivar
Not as flexible as I though at first. Here are the receipts so far. Tentative votes now are welcome; also the opportunity still so get another idea and send in a supplemental entry. Consider this the Primary elections...

Bolivia Limericks

A.
Said his girlfriend, “I'll try to fo'givia
Most of your faults are just trivia
But if you answer 'Yes!'
To, 'Am I fat in this dress?'
I'll kick you from here to Bolivia.”

B.
A little geography trivia:
What American lake is proclivia?
It's Lake Titicaca
So bring your alpaca
And join me in landlocked Bolivia.

C.
A brawny old bloke from Bolivia
Got lucky one night with Olivia,
But she was too tight,
So with nought else in sight,
He greased up his pole using Nivea.

D.
I once knew a girl in Bolivia
Whose name, I recall, was Olivia
She would hang from a tree
Thereby letting all see
Her strange way of eating Activia

E.
I know you're The Master of Trivia
And can field any question I givia
So when you say "La Paz
Is a city in Oz"
I'm obliged to respond "I Bolivia!"*

* (or perhaps "Ay, Bolivia!" or even "Hay Bolivia!" if your commitment to Accuracy outweighs your Reverence for The Master)

Where shall we put our "tentative" votes? We have a talented bunch here. I couldn't think of much.

Hi - I'm back !

I was envisioning people just writing a Reply: "I like A/B/AB/O" (or whatever), The numbers are small enough to tabulate by hand, I think...

Now to go and see if there's a separate thread for exactly this purpose I didn't look for yet...

Edit: Nope. So I hereby start it here.
_______________

First vote: I like A. Minor glitch in the rhythm in Line Four but, overall, appealing.

I hate to be a copycat, but I have to go for A, too. That glitch in Line 4 is pretty minor, and I like the fun fo'givia rhyme.

So that's the disadvantage of voting without a poll - no secret ballot.

hello! Sorry for spotty attendance-- tech issues & vacation. Didn't manage a submittal but maybe Ill think up a sidebar. Meanwhile D cracked me up so it gets my primary vote Smile

I've always been a sucker for a good pun, so my vote goes to E

Were it not for the awkward line four I'd vote for A; as it is I choose si - er, C. I also liked Bethree's choice.

Has everyone voted? I have a general comment if so, but it would give away mine.

Bob Hale submitted a verse, but hasn't voted yet.

...making our next Geographer up for grabs. Who wants it? Bob? Greg? You guys gonna fight it out?

Afternote: I thought "Bolivia" had much more potential for invention than it turned out to have. Shoulda thought harder to begin with. The same two or three rhymes occurred to everyone, and there wasn't much room after that...

Your turn, Kalleh!

I was going to suggest that, based on activity rates recently, our next destination should be the Doldrums (see Phantom Tollbooth), until I realized it belongs in the same category as SILVER and PURPLE and POETRY - no rhyme at all, without jumping through hoops. So I guess we'd better stay out of the Doldrums!

Well that all depends how you look at it. Normally the poll setter has the casting vote, so since you voted for A Hab, that would suggest your casting vote would go that way, so Bob it is. On the other hand often the poll setter often abstains from voting for a while to use their vote to break a tie if necessary, and if you had done that, then mine would have been the only one with 2 votes so it would have been me?

But since there is no rule that the poll setter is required to do that, then I think it is Bob, unless you've changed your mind and decided you like C better than A now and you decide to give your casting vote to C, so up to you really Hab.

Not for the next game since mine got a big goose egg.

When we started this game, we'd often include information about the city/country in the limerick, and I've kept that up. I think that takes away from my limericks being funny - they turn out to be more like many of the OEDILF ones. I think I'll give that up and try for funny.

I think Haberdasher was telling you that you could make your general comment now, Kalleh.

And - that was it (above). I thought these limericks were supposed to be about the place, but clearly I am the only one thinking that way. So I am going in a different direction - maybe... Wink

Two thoughts:

-- I agree with you, but we've gotten away from that. The emphasis these days is being salacious, and the tail is now wagging the dog.

-- Besides, the available rhymes for "Bolivia" were so few, and choices were so restricted, that there was nothing left but being blue.

Bob, are you up for choosing our next location?
