Here goes!

1. In Greek dancing, the art of jumping wherein the legs are perpendicular to the body - "Ouzo!"

2. Ukranian shish-ke-bob, usually consisting of chunks of lamb roasted on a skewer.

3. A Greek appetizer made from a paste of garbanzos, olive oil, and garlic; served with crumbled feta cheese, all rolled in steamed grape leaves.

4. Gallstones.

5. A type of crab, common in the Mediterranean.

6. A Swedish cheese.

7. A tuft of hair on top of one's head.

8. A gambling game popular in the 1920s in which a set of four unconventially numbered dice were used. The renumbering of the dice gave the house a significant advantage which led to the game falling from popularity.

9. A dip or stew made from yellow split peas that can be eaten with a spoon or with Greek bread.

Too much Greek. Too much food. Too many faux amis. Throw them all out.

Not much left, is there?!

I'll be unconventional and take EIGHT.

I have no idea. I think it's a tufted Greek dancing crab that gambles with dice made of cheese, and the dice add up to #8.

I invented my dice game but there really was a confidence trick of a similar nature. I don't think it had a name though.

It works like this

Dice 1 (Red) All sides marked with 4
Dice 2 (Black) Two sides marked with 10,the rest with 1
Dice 3 (White) four sides marked with 6, two with 0

All of the dice therefore contain 24 spots in total.

The victim chooses a dice, the conman chooses a dice and both roll them, whoever gets the highest score wins. They play this for ten rounds and then choose again. As the victim gets free choice of the dice the game seems fair to him.

It isn't. If the victim chooses black the conman chooses red and will find he wins an average of four out of every six games.

If the victim chooses white the conman chooses black and will win 5/9 of the time.

If the victim chooses red the conman chooses white and wins 2/3 of the time.

No matter which dice the victim chooses the conman can always choose one that will win more often. The purpose of rolling each pair ten times is so that the victim doesn't catch on too quickly to the selection being made my the conman.

You can either do the maths (or the math if you're American) or make the dice and test it out for yourselves. I promise you that the figures above are accurate.

Anyway that was the idea behind my daffynition and I suppose having something real in mind led to it sounding convincing.

And fooled Kalleh! My Christmas is complete.

Well, I am at least happy that I completed arnie's Christmas! Roll Eyes

This one was a case of bad luck. I went through all the definitions and decided on 7 or secondly, 5. Even though the word sounded like Greek food to me, my intuition told me it wasn't. Jerry before me had guessed 7, and I didn't want to look like a copycat. So, I chose 5. Curses! Mad

Bob, yours sounded great, but was probably too detailed...much like CJ's used to be when he was playing this game with us. The game sounds fun though. I kind of like that victim and conman idea!
