haberdasherOPERCULUM proposed
An
OPERCULUM is one or another of these:
a) the focusing mechanism in the eyepiece used by jewelers for evaluating the quality of gemstones.
b) the muscle, directly beneath the vocal cords, which allows a singer to control vibrato
c) a duct in a living organism
d) the lid closing the aperture of various species of shells, such as the common whelk
e) a bag for carrying needlework, knitting, etc.
f) a small shrine
g) a brief musical work of second-century Rome, using voices and instruments
What's your pleasure, Folks?

arnieKalleh asked me to vote on her behalf. She said if one of the daffynitions was medical, I should choose that. I therefore vote for
b) on her behalf.
For myself, I vote for
d).

CaterwaullerOOh - I like them all!
I wish I had an operculum for my knitting . . . but I think it's really D. It must be D, right? I mean, since Arnie and Jo both voted for D?
Interesting that 2 of them involve music, eh? And the shrine idea is good, too. Sigh.
OK - D for me, too.
And what IS that thing the jewelers use?
