Limerick Game: France
The next Limerick Game word is France. I decided to keep it easy this time in hopes of getting a few more submissions.

Please send me your limerick via PM. I love humor and fun rhymes; wordplay is especially nice. I am a little persnickety about meter, I'm sorry to say.

I see London, I see France...but I don't see any limerick submissions. Mad

Come on, people! This one is easy and could be oh so fun!

With you later today (providing drink doesn't interfere with the thought processes too much)

But (he says innocently) it's so hard to rhyme.

I mean which, if any of the following rhyme properly with France

dance, chance, pants, cans, aunts

and that's before we through in the actual French pronunciation which, AFIK has NO proper English rhymes containinng, as it does, a sound absent from conventional English pronunciation.

Roll Eyes

Even rhymezone only lists nine bolded faced (ie common) words!

(Bob's so prolific. He makes me feel inadequate.)

Not so far with this one though. Smile
I've comp[letely forgotten about it in between going to the cinema to see Iron Man and spending four hours marking exams. Now it's late and I'm tired but I'll try to do some tomorrow. Maybe on the Metro journey to work.

Well, Bob finally came through.

I need more...more...more!

Come on, folks! "France" is fairly easy, isn't it?

I just don't have the comuter time. If I get brainwave I'll try to remember it and submit it.

I can't wait to hear about those Canadian comuters! Big Grin

I have 1 from Jerry, 1 from Wordmatic, and 3 from Robert. Is this as good as it gets?

Okay. That's it. I've received another from Jerry, so I am posting them. I hope this game hasn't seen it's better days (as my mom used to say) because I like it!

Bob's Trio

Nostradamus, a mystic of France
Said, "Predictions? Well give me a chance.
For me, I see fame.
They'll remember my name.
And for you? That's ten sou. In advance."

For a man who is visiting France,
It's a place to find love and romance,
But if what he expects
Is no more than just sex,
Amsterdam gives a much better chance.

Nostradamus, a mystic of France
From the depths of a visionary trance
Said "I see war and more,
I see wars by the score.
Mankind? Well we haven't a chance."

I like them, Bob, especially the middle one.

Jerry's Duet

When sisters and cousins from France
Compare aromatic house plants
They spend lots of time
On rosemary and thyme;
Geraniums don't have a chance.

You athletic young ladies from France,
You needn't henceforth look askance.
The flamencos in Spain
Love to dance in the rain.
Is this what you're seeking, perchance?

Nicely done; I really like the flamenco one.

However, with a little workshopping of the last line to appease my rigid meter preference, I had to go with Wordmatic's:

While visiting BobHale in France,
I tried to avoid all his aunts.
They were harping and carping
and lirping and larping--
And all looking at me askance!

Let's change "me" to "Sally" and we've got it! I mean, she's included Bob, his aunts (whose pronunciation makes those British look askance at us!), and "lirping" and "larping." I had to look up the latter.

Wordmatic, you're up!

But Kalleh! I was just being silly--Bob's and Jerry's were Serious Works of Art!

And there's no such thing as larping, or I didn't think there was. I thought I'd made it up!

Oh well. Sorry guys.

In honor of this coming week's gathering...

You could have done a couple yourself. I always do.

And one of the regulars - Richard - is hors de combat this week.

Congratulations wordmatic. I think you could insist on a time limit for this one and read them out at the Gathering (which is, in the Highlander films and TV series, the time when all the immortals will come together and hack each other to bits until only one remains. There can be only one. Smile)

I'm only good for one at a time. I don't deal in multiples!

As for The Highlander, I loved that series. And while all of us in Columbus certainly qualify as immortal, I don't believe the TSA will allow me on board the plane with my great Claymore. Anyway, I don't think that's the kind of potluck CW has in mind!

I'm also a fan of Highlander (Series and all the movies except Highlander II which was just awful - Wags paraphrased the "there can be only one" slogan as "Highlander II - there should have been only one")

And as a fan you should know that the Claymore wouldn't be a problem. Those immortals could walk stark naked into a nudist camp and still produce a bloody great broadsword from somewhere.

BTW the "couple yourself" comment was for Kalleh as the hostess of this particular round. The host can't win but can contribute. that's way we usually play.

Wordmatic, I looked up "larping," because I always love to hear about new words. LARP is an acronym meaning "live action role-playing," and I thought it fit well enough. I truly loved "lirping and larping!"
