<Asa Lovejoy>Bluffing Game ENFEOFF
Enfeoff is your new word. Well, actually it's quite an old word, so put on your Great Aunt Tillie's corset, lace it up tight, and see what you can imagine while suffering from hypoxia!
August 15, 2005, 21:57
KallehThanks, Asa, for doing the word this time...and mine is in your PM box, ready for Arnie to select it!

August 16, 2005, 18:50
CaterwaullerThis is a hard one, but I'll send something to you.

my daffynition is going out via PM
August 17, 2005, 19:41
<Asa Lovejoy>I've got six daffynitions so far. Come on, folks, give me some more!
BTW, why didn't the word go bold in the subject line? What did I do wrong THIS time!?!?
August 17, 2005, 23:47
arnieYou can't use formatting at all in thread subject titles, I'm afraid.

haberdasherBetter late than never. Mine's on the way.
August 20, 2005, 08:05
<Asa Lovejoy>I've got daffynitions from Jerry Thomas, Kalleh, arnie, Jo, Bob Hale, Caterwauller, and Haberdasher. Last call! Anyone else? PM me today; I'll post them tomorrow (Sunday)
August 21, 2005, 12:00
<Asa Lovejoy>Here are the daffynitions, and, of course, the real one!
1. To offer land for sale at a reduced or discounted price.
2. Archaic, to invest with a freehold estate in land; to give as a fief.
3. Archaic term for the counterpoint harmony in a liturgical chant.
4. Verb: to make a slave of someone.
5. Archaic: a payment, usually in land or cloth, made in place of military service. This tax was usually paid by families of young men who went into the clergy, thus precluding their ability to join the armies. The tax was also required of families who had only girl children.
6. To make legal; to remove the stain of illegality from an action.
7. To invigorate, from German "pfeffer," pepper.
8. A standard industrial 6 pin industrial tube with integral mounting flanges.
9. To treat beef tenderloin roast with the blend of spices developed and used by Jakob T. Feoff, Executive Chef, in 1889.
Medium rare OK, boys and girls, post what you find plausible!
August 21, 2005, 12:08
BobHale2 sounds the most plausible to me, along with 4, 5 and 7.
So I'll go for 1.

jerry thomasAn overwhelming feeling of hypoxia inspires me to vote for Number THREE.
August 21, 2005, 13:20
DianthusI'd go for 1, 2, or 4. I think I'll choose number 4.
Tea for two, and two for tea;
I guess that means it's TWO for me!
August 21, 2005, 14:40
haberdasherI think I'll be a
two-teetler too...
August 21, 2005, 16:14
arnieTwo and two makes
four for me!

August 21, 2005, 19:22
CaterwaullerI'll vote for #7 because I need some invigoration.

haberdasher..and don't forget that "Geoff" is pronounced "Jeff." Just ask any Toys-R-Us afficionado.
August 22, 2005, 18:18
Kalleh Six, please.
August 22, 2005, 18:36
<Asa Lovejoy>Well do I know that, since that's my real name.

<Asa Lovejoy>EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW, Tinman, I put up with that from people who don't know better!

August 22, 2005, 22:08
<Asa Lovejoy>Here are the results:
1. To offer land for sale at a reduced or discounted price.
Haberdasher sold some mosquito-infested swamp land to Bob Hale with this one!
2. Archaic, to invest with a freehold estate in land; to give as a fief.
Jo and Haberdasher knew the right answer! Good going, you two!
3. Archaic term for the counterpoint harmony in a liturgical chant.
Caterwauler sang this siren's song and snared Jerry Thomas!
4. Verb: to make a slave of someone.
Bob Hale enslaved arnie and Dianthus! Very good, Bob!
5. Archaic: a payment, usually in land or cloth, made in place of military service. This tax was usually paid by families of young men who went into the clergy, thus precluding their ability to join the armies. The tax was also required of families who had only girl children.
Jo didn't fool anyone, but it sounded good to me!
6. To make legal; to remove the stain of illegality from an action.
Arnie concocted this just to fool Kalleh.
7. To invigorate, from German "pfeffer," pepper.
This is one I threw in at the last minute, and Caterwauller, being hungry for spicy food at the time, bit on it.
8. A standard industrial 6 pin industrial tube with integral mounting flanges.
Kalleh's whimsy didn't spark any guesses.
9. To treat beef tenderloin roast with the blend of spices developed and used by Jakob T. Feoff, Executive Chef, in 1889.
Medium rare Jerry Thomas gave us this one to chew on, but nobody swallowed it.
This is indeed a momentous occasion! Someone FOOLED ARNIE!!! (Sorry it wasn't you, Kalleh, but at least we now know it can be done!)
So ends another thrilling episode of The Bluffing Game! Tune in next week when you'll here someone say, "The next word is....." (Who's gonna do the next one?)
August 23, 2005, 01:41
BobHaleWoooo-hoooooo! I'm retiring now. I fooled arnie.

arnieAt least I fooled Kalleh!

Great! Once again! And here I thought I got it right, for once. Shu told me he knew what the word meant, so I figured it must be something about "law!" (That's what I get for trying to cheat!

)
August 24, 2005, 21:14
KallehWho'd like the next word?
August 29, 2005, 21:16
Kalleh Ahem...does anyone have a word you'd like us to define? Should we take a break from this game for awhile?
August 29, 2005, 22:02
<Asa Lovejoy>If nobody picks it up by tomorrow, I'll post one again. "Tain't no law again' it!
