arnieThis word seems popular. In less than 24 hours I've received eight daffynitions of varying likelihood already which appear to be from all the usual suspects. If you haven't already contributed, send me a PM!
Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

KallehNah...it's not the
word, it's you, arnie.

arnieHere are the daffynitions for
ecphorize:
- to clean off bones with a chemical abrasive
- Double vision. Based on the expletive Heck! indicating surprise, plus slang -phorize , an abbreviated four eyes. Now that stimulus should evoke past memories of childhood embarrassment when you first donned specs.
- to cause a state of sadness or pain.
- vb. to send signals from the brain along pathways other than proper neural transmitters, resulting in muscle twitches, tics, and even clonic seizure. From the Greek ek meaning out of and phoresis meaning transmission; eg: electrophoresis.
- The new word, ecphorize, is one of those rare nouns that look like verbs. Originally spelled "E. C. for Eyes," it's believed to be the most Ecologically Correct remedy for the side effects of Cataract Surgery. Not to be confused with E.C. for Ears (ecphorears) or E.C. for Nose (ecphornoes). Mostly used by otorhinolaryngologists and their patients.
- to evoke or revive an engram (an emotion, a memory, or the like) by means of a stimulus
- to make ghosts appear at your command
- 1. To calm troubled waters; 2. To render still a sparkling wine.
- To remove the outer layer of skin; especially used as treatment for acne.
- to discuss one's mood or feelings in a public forum
- to air out a chamber or a drawer, to purge it of the smell of mothballs
Guess away!

Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

<Asa Lovejoy>This one's Greek to me! I think it's either 1, 8, or 11, but since I've never heard of an "abrasive" chemical, I'll go with 11 and hope it doesn't chase the fore-eyed stale wine-sipping ghosts out of my drawers.

arnie ANSWERS- to clean off bones with a chemical abrasive
CW's suggestion, which fooled wordmatic
- Double vision. Based on the expletive Heck! indicating surprise, plus slang -phorize , an abbreviated four eyes. Now that stimulus should evoke past memories of childhood embarrassment when you first donned specs.
This was pearce's essay, which fooled no-one.
- to cause a state of sadness or pain.
Asa's contribution, which caused hab sadness.
- vb. to send signals from the brain along pathways other than proper neural transmitters, resulting in muscle twitches, tics, and even clonic seizure. From the Greek ek meaning out of and phoresis meaning transmission; eg: electrophoresis.
An impressive flim-flammery from jo that had no takers.

Jerry's unlikely story that no-one believed was likely.
- to evoke or revive an engram (an emotion, a memory, or the like) by means of a stimulus
The true meaning (see http://home.mn.rr.com/wwftd/def.htm#ecphorize) Both pearce and jo (of course) got it right.
- to make ghosts appear at your command
Bob's daffynition that fooled jerry and CW.
- 1. To calm troubled waters; 2. To render still a sparkling wine.
Suggested by wordmatic who conned Bob.
- To remove the outer layer of skin; especially used as treatment for acne.
Kalleh prescribed this but got no takers.
- to discuss one's mood or feelings in a public forum
Proposed by hab, but received no seconders.
- to air out a chamber or a drawer, to purge it of the smell of mothballs
A second suggestion sent in by hab, which fumigated both asa and Kalleh.
OK, who's got the next word?
Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

KallehNice word, arnie. Obviously it sounded like a medical word to a number of us.
Bob...it has been awhile. I nominate you for the next word.
