<Asa Lovejoy>Bluffing Game: MARVER
Here's your new word, boys and girls! Send me a PM with some "Marver-lous" daffynitions!
MARVERJanuary 17, 2005, 13:19
joMy daffynition is in the private mail, Asa!
January 18, 2005, 21:16
<Asa Lovejoy>I've got daffynitions from arnie, Caterwauler, Jo, Kalleh, and Rose so far. Come on, keep 'em coming!
January 18, 2005, 21:23
KallehOh, I am so happy that Rose is joining us!
When this game is finished, how about doing the next one, Rose?

January 18, 2005, 23:32
Rose NunezUh-oh; pressure's on now...

Nothing more than all semblance of propriety and sanity.

Kalleh Nothing more than all semblance of propriety and sanity. Now, Asa, how can you be so mean to a fellow Oregano?

Rose, we'll help if you have questions, and we are
very laid back about it. Basically you post a word. People will send you PMs (KHC will need an e-mail address) with the daffynition. You give them about 5 days to send these to you (a reminder may be in order for the procrastinators!), and then you post the real definition and source (not revealing it), along with all the daffynitions. People will post their choices, and again you give them a couple of days for that. Then...you end the game, identifying the true definition, as well as who guessed what and who posted the various daffynitions.
We haven't been keeping score lately (we used to), but Jo and arnie seem to be our big winners. However, it has been lots of fun! Your fellow Oregano came up with this idea months ago, and we have been going strong ever since!

Hey, you've played this game at my house, Kalleh, and have seen intelligent, mature people become total raving loonies! As for Rose's being an Oregano, well, she DOES seem pretty spicy!

(Check out her blog!)

<Asa Lovejoy>I've got CW, Jo, Kalleh, arnie, Rose, Jerry, Haerdasher, and the real definition so far, Any more? I'll post the list Friday evening (That's tomorrow) so get 'em in if you're gonna!

<Asa Lovejoy>Marver Daffynitions (and one real one!)
1. A lance or pike.
2. A fan of Marvel Comics characters (Spider Man).
3. A tool for etching colored designs into plexiglass, generally used in the creation of faux stained glass.
4. A smooth, hard, flat surface used by glass blowers for shaping glass.
5. To rustle, expecially when women rustle their skirts.
6. (jocular) A matricide; one who kills his mother; formed from mother-carver.
7. A deep-sea diver employed by fishing boats to locate schools of fish.
8. A large marble used by children in playing competitive marble games, its advantage due to its size.
9. Colloquial, generally disparaging, a tall, gangling, often clumsy person, derived from Marfan's Syndrome.
There you've got 'em! Guess away - unless you don't have to!

BobHaleI didn't provide a definition but it sounds like an eight to me.

arnieFour for me, please
Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

joNot having a mind of my own,
I'll join in with those who are grown
And take number four;
Unless you have more
Than the great daffynitions you've shown?
January 22, 2005, 12:02
tinmanI like 6. That would make Norman Bates a marver. But I don't think that's the right definition, so I'll choose 1.
Tinman
January 22, 2005, 13:04
KallehJust to be crotchety, I'll choose 3.
I imagine that the correct definition is 4, though.
January 22, 2005, 15:01
CaterwaullerAs much as it irks me to agree with so many, I'll choose 4 this time.

Rose NunezIf it isn't number eight, it should be.
January 23, 2005, 09:12
<Asa Lovejoy>Haberdasher, please get your answer in, and then I'll post the results.
January 23, 2005, 14:13
haberdasherDon't really care for the choices...but I suppose I'll have to go with FOUR also. Either that or ONE, but I'll stick with
fourJanuary 23, 2005, 14:39
<Asa Lovejoy>Curses, it appears that half of you have taken classes in glass blowing! It was, indeed, #4!
1. A lance or pike. Submitted by Asa Lovejoy - just so I could fool Tinman.
2. A fan of Marvel Comics characters (Spider Man). CW didn't fool anyone with this one - but she and Kalleh are out buying shoes right now, so she doesn't care!
3. A tool for etching colored designs into plexiglass, generally used in the creation of faux stained glass. Jo fooled Kalleh with this one!
4. A smooth, hard, flat surface used by glass blowers for shaping glass. Dagnab it, how come so many of you knew it!?!? (Jerry, arnie, Jo, CW, and Haberdasher)
5. To rustle, expecially when women rustle their skirts. It was Kalleh's skirt that was rustling, but nobody believed her!
6. (jocular) A matricide; one who kills his mother; formed from mother-carver. To my amazement, arnie didn't fool anyone with this one!
7. A deep-sea diver employed by fishing boats to locate schools of fish. Rose proffered this one, but didn't catch any suckers!
8. A large marble used by children in playing competitive marble games, its advantage due to its size. Jerry hornswaggled Bob Hale and Rose, proving that he has NOT lost his marbles! And having guessed the right one, he's our
BIG Winner this time!
9. Colloquial, generally disparaging, a tall, gangling, often clumsy person, derived from Marfan's Syndrome. Thatr was Dr. Haberdasher speaking - but nobody believed him.
OK, Rose, you're up next! If you have questions, just PM any one of the regulars here, and we'll be happy to confuse the dickens outa you!

January 23, 2005, 16:27
Rose NunezOkay--Guess I'll start a new thread, eh, wot?
January 25, 2005, 19:42
KallehGood grief! I am beginning to get a complex with these games.

January 26, 2005, 04:17
CaterwaullerDon't get a complex, Kalleh . . . I still think you're scoring better than me, overall.
