Send me your daffynitions via PM please.

Obs. The embroidery around the hole in a traditional "wedding sheet," the purpose of which was to catch the bride's blood in proof of her virginity.

Um ... Asa?

I think you meant to send that by PM. Wink Big Grin

OHHHHHHHHH, MERDE!!!
I'll send another via PM - and that doesn't mean "pre-marital" or some such!

Got it, Asa!

Now, if the rest of you will please send a daffynition? I've only got three. Surely you can invent something for this most unusual word.

I've got five daffynitions so far. If no more arrive by the end of the day tomorrow, I shall make up a couple myself and post the results on Monday.

As promised, here are your daffynitions. Thanks for some really interesting submissions.

1. The storage room in a medieval alchemist's laboratory where glass was stored.

2. The use of a double-headed ax in warfare.

3. The practice of inserting labrets, an ornament worn through the upper or lower lip.

4. A hatchery for a species of salt water fish.

5. A botanical garden, specifically specialising in the cultivation of ferns.

6. Lacy booties for canines.

7. Term used in late 1800s for doctors' instruments used specifically for female examinations.

8. A closet that is built under a staircase, often lined with cedar, for holding clothing.

I lost another post!

I voted 1 before Kalleh did, honest!

I'll vote for 4.

I may vote, even though I didn't submit one, correct?

1. The storage room in a medieval alchemist's laboratory where glass was stored. Rex's (my husband); guessed by Kalleh and Bob Hale.

2. The use of a double-headed ax in warfare. Arnie's; guessed by no one.

3. The practice of inserting labrets, an ornament worn through the upper or lower lip. The real deal: guessed (of course!) by Arnie and CW

4. A hatchery for a species of salt water fish. Provided by Asa; guessed by wordmatic

5. A botanical garden, specifically specialising in the cultivation of ferns. Penned by Bob Hale; no body weeded this garden.

6. Lacy booties for canines. CW gave us this woof for the day; but no one believed her. Frown

7. Term used in late 1800s for doctors' instruments used specifically for female examinations. Jo (that's me!) tried for the clever, and failed.

8. A closet that is built under a staircase, often lined with cedar, for holding clothing. Kalleh blinded Asa with her architectural brilliance.

Bah! Mad

I had hoped that spelling the word "ax" would put some people off the scent, but no luck. (We spell it "axe" in the UK.)

From somewhere from the back of my mind I dredged up the fact that lip piercings are called "labrets". How (and why) I learnt that I have no idea.

Well, phooey! There's a genus of fish, labriadae, and I thought I'd snare several with my daffynition. I wonder what would have hapened if my original daffynition hadn't been posted to the whole world!?!? Symbolic lips around the bride's virginal labia... Hmmmmmm...

Asa has a word going, CW.

Darn! I wondered if it were #3, but I just didn't have enough confidence, I guess.
