It's one of several verbs that go with
obeisance.
E. A. Poe, describing the Raven's entry, used
make:

Not a moment stopped or stayed he,
But with mein of Lord or Lady ...
... others might include
offer, proffer, lend, give, do . I needed an "s" word, so I chose
show.
