Limerick Game - Galena
I am not sure what is happening to this game, but I am not letting it lie dormant any longer!

Shu and I enjoy weekend trips to Galena in the Northwest part of Illinois. There are a lot of historic buildings there, including the Ulysses S. Grant House, the Dowling House and the DeSota House Hotel. It is a great place to visit. Let's write limericks on Galena!

Was it named for some girl or for lead ore? Was the girl named for lead ore? If so, it's as silly as naming a girl Amber, which is fossilized sap. Also, Pierre means "rock," so he's really named solidified dirt. He might be sedimentary, metamorphic, or igneous. Come to think of it, that does describe lots of men, doesn't it?

I shall submit one anon.

Orrrr...is it a Marty Robbins song? Out in the illinois town of Galena/I fell in love with a Nebraska girl/...

I've never seen/heard it other than as Ga-LEE-na.

Ok. In the absence of an official ruling I'll go with Ga LEE na.

I'm struggling with this. Without being rhotic I can't think of many rhymes. GRRRRRRRR!!! I'll keep trying.

It’s a tough one alright. I did two but both cheat a bit on the rhymes. Try putting Galena on the last line.

I finally got one in, but doubt I've got any more inside my battered old brain. I'll keep trying, though.

Edit: I did dredge another one from the basement of my cerebrum, where all the detritus resides.

Probably means there are four now - two each from you and me.

I hope that's not all, but you may be right.

Anyone remember a song whose second line is
"Tu voglio piú presto casar!" (if I've spelt it right)?

Nope, not me. Even after googling and youtubing it wasn't familiar. It does give a rhyme I hadn't thought of though.

Kalleh, what have you got? No, not THAT, I mean what's happening with the limericks!

Geez, I am a bad person! Mad I post a limerick game and then disappear. So sorry - much going on, but that's no excuse.

I have a lot of entries and will post the final this Saturday. PROMISE! Bob and Geoff asked the pronunciation and I forgot that, so let's all be lenient on that. In Illinois it is pronounced:

Ga - LEE - na

Also, be prepared all ye who hate the polls - this one will be done with a poll. For those who think the polls are tricky, I'll give you a hint.
