BobHaleFirst, two, thirdly
Listening to Tony Blair enumerate his points this morning he started with
"First, I'd like two say..."
moved on to
"Two, it's important that..."
and finished up with
"Thirdly, I want to...".
Am I the only person that this annoys? If he'd gone on to another point and started
"D, the fact of the matter..."
I think I'd have thrown something at the TV in sheer frustration.

KallehBob, it sounds to me as if his background is in education. That is exactly how educators think. I agree with you that it can be quite annoying!

I have also heard it like:
A. he doesn't have a girlfriend
B. he is really very handsome
C. he is one of the nicest guys I have ever met, so
D. would you like a blind date with him?
Nothing like taking a multiple choice test during a conversation!

Richard EnglishKalleh,
I suspect that Bob's annoyance was as much as anything with Blair's system of numbering which went:
First
Two
Thirdly
and may then might possibly have continued:
D
next
vi
and so on.
I agree, though, that the "multiple choice" system of interrogation can be annoying as well. This is a technique that's taught to high-pressure salespeople on the basis that, if you keep getting your prospect to say "yes" to easy and non-threatening questions, then he or she will maybe say "yes" to the question that asks for the sale.

You're taking a bit of a chance here, K. I'm pretty sure that Shufitz visits this board on a fairly regular basis.

Kalleh"descretion"????

CJ, I recommend men for blind dates all the time. Check the greatboyfriends.com site if you don't believe me. Why would that annoy Shufitz? If anything, it is a compliment because I am recommending marriage to single men.

Do these men know that when you recommend them for a blind date you expect them to get married?
