I just read that Thomas Nashe (1567-1601) claims credit for introducing 'ize' into English to remedy the surplus of monosyllabic words. Is that the case? This article had a great new one that I hadn't heard: "Post-It-ize." I could definitely see the need for that word!

Ize of the opinion that many "izes" are anathema! Too many pseudo-savants affix that suffix for obfuscatory purposes.
