Set to run
This passed me by at the time but has been reposted in Peter Harvey's blog.

Apparently "set" no longer has the longest entry in the OED. That honour now goes to "run".

I can understand the different senses (624 for run and 430 for set), but I don't understand what they mean by 124,000 words for run and 60,000 words for set.

The articles in the OED use 124,000 words to describe the 624 senses of run and 60,000 words for the 430 uses of set. Although don't forget that set still has to be updated ...
