Remember the "zebra" controversy?
The few of you still around will certainly remember the furore on the board about the "Mr Ed was a Zebra" hoax. Well I have another that I just found out... and this one it seems from my investigations is actually true.

Here's the question. What kind of animal roars at the start of MGM films?

The animal you see is a lion BUT he's lip-synching to the roar of a tiger because a tiger's roar is more impressive. Seemed unlikely when I heard it on the No Such Thing As A Fish podcast. However I researched it and it does seem to be true.

Why didn't they just use a tiger?

The Lion had been their introduction since the silen movie days. They didn't want to change something so closely related to their brand but felt the tiger's roar was more impressive.
