The English Blog has an item about The Mail On Sunday's response to a poster, written in txtspk about internet/phone safety.

For a bit of background the Mail is a notoriously reactionary right wing rag that's always moaning about something or other so the article is hardly surprising or new.

Personally I think the poster is mildly amusing and might well convince teens of the need for safety on the internet in a way that traditional posters wouldn't.

The bit that amused me though was this.

"Responsible adults include yr tchaz, parNts n d carers W whom u liv"

Apart from the lack of txtspk on some of the words (presumably because the adults who designed it couldn't work out a readable version) I love that "W whom u liv" a blend of a now uncommon grammatical construction (for teens in spoken English "you live with" is far far more common) and the txtspk of the poster.

Priceless.

All this baffles me. It's a telePHONE, not a television.

Do they text because it's cheaper than an actual call, or is it trendy?

I asked a kid that very question. He pointed out that you can text in class, without the professor noticing.

Or, apparently, waking.
