Double Dactyls, anyone?
Anyone care to give it a go? Smile

This thread contains a lot of earlier double dactyls posted here: Son of double dactyls.

Ah, Shu, I've been missing the DDs.

I'll try to come up with one. Interesting that you've no person in that second line, but I'll forgive you. Wink

Higgledy-Piggledy
Icelandic songstress Björk
Adds a new trick to that
Vibrating note

Eh-yah-fyat-lah-yuh-kütl
Ashed up her vocal chords:
Now, like the Tuvans, she
Sings from her throat!

Nice, bethree!

Shu and I have started a new tradition, which I like. Each night we read some poetry together, and I am on Wordsworth now. Therefore:

Higgledy Piggledy
Wordsworth of poetry,
Launched the Romantic Age:
Beauty in words.

Characteristically,
Potent in verse like the
Daffodils poem that is
Not just for nerds.

As Shu said, "You've done better, Kalleh." Oh well. I haven't written one in awhile.

[And...at least I have a person in my second line. Wink]

It's a couple of days late now, but what the hey...

B.A.A. Marathon,
Commonwealth Avenue.
Eighteenth of April is
Patriots' Day.

City of Boston says
"Unidirectional!
No auto traffic,
Just runners today!"

Yes, I know. On the other hand, a lot of people think running that kind of distance is a lot of nonsense. "City of Boston," too, for that matter.

Very nice! When ours comes up, I'll write one, too. However, you will have to stress the Chi on Chicago.

...Run in Chicago's
October 10 Marathon!

and so on.

Here are two I had fun writing:
quote:
1.
Dastardly doggerel
Ludwig van Beethoven
Curly Hugh barley queue
Knittelvers Flügelhorn;

Battledore shuttlecock
Dipsomaniacal
Whimsical eight-liner
It feels so good when it stops.

2.
Scurrilous popinjay
Gerard Manley Hopkins
Universe sprung his verse
Urging his pencil on;

Assinine poetry
Sequipedalian
Metrical straitjackets
S2 L1 orange.

Why do these remind me of the "anti-limerick:"

There was a young man of St. Bees,
Who was stung on the nose by a wasp.
When asked, "Does it hurt?"
He replied "Yes, it does,
But I thought all the while 'twas a hornet!"

attributed to W. S. Gilbert, no less.

Why do these remind me of the "anti-limerick:"

Because, I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way? I enjoy constrained light verse about as much as the next guy, but there is just something in me that rebels. But WSG ain't taking the credit for these (nor the blame). They are 100% zmjian.

[Corrected numerous typos.]

Feel free. Rebellion is a respected and venerable virtue.

The attribution is from Pearson's Magazine, 1903 as you can see. I had heard it, or at least recalled it, differently, with the last line being "But I'm so glad it wasn't..."

(I see along URL instead of an underlined link...have to go figure out why)

[Corrected; I just cut it down to exclude the words you searched on which had an apostrophe in it. Those apostrophes cause way more trouble than they are worth. Wink]

Well, as one who probably should have been in the military, I love the constraint. Wink

Higgledy Piggledy
Rodney Blagojevich,
Once was our governor,
Waits for his trial.

Smarmy, he's smooth as he,
Exasperatingly,
Rants to the public; he
Bubbles my bile!

OOO GOTCH-a, Kalleh! Rod's first name is... MILOROD. Course you're a local so you may have the inside track here-- maybe he adopted 'Rodney' as well as Rod. Regardless, LOVE the bile. Pls see my DD on RB on your Poetry Month thread. Big Grin

No, I had only assumed "Rodney." Darn! I did see yours, and it's very good!

Can it be seven years since we've tried double dactyls?

Here's one:

Hump-etty, Dump-etty,
President Trump-etty
Debuted with Orders and
Tiff after tiff.

All the Republicans
Enthusiastically
Climbed on his wagon and
Plunged o'er the cliff.

I've been thinking about DDs recently, too, Bethree.

Love yours!

Higgledy Piggledy
President Donald T.,
Whom I do like to call
Tiny-hands Trumpster,

Tweets about immigrants,
Muslims and health care, let's
Unsympathetically
Toss in the dumpster!

Bumpity Trumpity
Epicaracity
Shadenfreude's brother
He uses with glee

He knows not their meaning
But if it's demeaning
T. Rump's gonna use 'em
And cackle with glee.

Not sure if the form's right since I'm so dumb I thought DD was a bra size.

Ha, ha, Kalleh and Geoff! Just checking back in thought nobody was interested. I love "tiny-hands Trumpster". And "epicaricity, Schadenfreude's brother," what a couplet! Trumspter and dumpster... Meaning and demeaning...

You've both inspired me!
