DallasAMDirect Correlation?
I'm trying to think of a word that also means direct correlation.
For instance, Being outside in the cold does not make you sick, but it weakens your immune system, which is what made you sick.
Or, if someone was murdered, and you didn't kill him, but you did something that lead to his death. Anyone know the word?

BobHaleI don't think DallasAM is after a word for that specific example but rather a word that means "correlation".
How about
association,connection. correspondence, interdependence or reciprocity?
or correlation?

KallehWelcome, DallasAM!
Generally in research we say that there is a positive (or negative) correlation or association. Correlations studies are weaker than causal studies, of course, and the researchers need to control extraneous variables.
