Hit the spot
I had told Shu that what I had for dinner really hit the spot. He wondered where that term came from. I looked on several web pages and this one seems to have the best explanation to me.

Any other thoughts?

The first citation in the OED Online is from 1836:

The way I remember that Pepsi-Cola jingle is
