Family sayings
In Community I posted a thread entitled, "A day late and a dollar short," which is something my dad always used to say. It got me to thinking of other sayings of my mom and dad, and a few of them are:

Mom
"Wow! Look at those pins!" (kiddingly admiring our legs when we had a bathing suit on; embarrassing to us!)

Dad
"A day late and a dollar short..."

"You can call me anything; just don't call me late to dinner!"

"He's down in the cellar behind the axe." (When I was looking for someone, like my grandfather or brother)

"The whole fam-dam-ily is coming" (I never knew if he meant "damn" or not.)

My dad would call strangers "Pete Finortny" and "Ollie Ducklestool." That cracked us up!

"He's one fry short of a Happy Meal!"

I know, I have more from my dad. I've asked my siblings to help me. I am sure they'll come up with more.

How about some of yours? You parents must have cracked you up sometimes, too, right?

Since I was born in South Carolina in the mid-1940s, most of my family sayings were racist, so I'll not contribute.

Love this topic, Kalleh. Here are the first few that come to mind:

My grandmother, “Oh, go fry a radish!” Also: “Horsefeathers!”

My great-uncle, “What in Sam Hill...?”

My father-in-law, drawing a grandson by the same first name on his knee), “Now I once knew a boy by the name of George Dinglehopper...”

Love them!

When I first came here, I posted about this saying: When you are mad "That really dusts my doilies!" Mad It didn't come from a family member, but I loved it!

I suspect it was a synonym for "H. E. double hockey-sticks"

Oh. How about triple hockey sticks sitting on a huge hockey puck? https://www.amazon.com/Ford-F6...&s=automotive&sr=1-1

My dad used to call people who did something dumb - a Rum Dum. My kids loved that!

My mother used to say, "There's not a jury that would convict me."

Then my brother reminded me of my mother saying, "Elvis the pelvis and his brother, Enis..."
