Andragogy
I am working on a national group where we are trying to come up with standards for nursing graduates' transition to practice programs. The chair of this group came up with the first draft of our charter, using the word "andragogy" because these are all adult learners. This work is to be disseminated widely in nursing and I don't feel that "andragogy" is used that much, is it? Maybe we use it wrong in nursing, but we tend to use "pedagogy." I realize "pedagogy" is child learning, but its use seems to be more wide than that. What are your thoughts?

I know the word but I can't say it's one I've encountered often. Then again I don't work in health care.

I hadn't heard the word but the meaning was easy to determine. One hears pedagogy often enough, so why not? Well, OK, these days some will say it's sexist, so maybe it should be androgynegogy.
