How did this work come to mean quarrelling? Is it onomatopoeic?

jerry thomas bicker 1297, "a skirmish, fight," bikern, probably from M.Du. bicken "to slash, stab, attack," + -er, M.E. frequentative suffix. Meaning "quarrel" is from 1330.
