I heard another phrase in a recent meeting, and it's obvious what it means, but I just had to share it. At the start of the meeting, someone said "Now, how're we gonna skin this apple?"

I've heard "peel the onion," but not the apple! Interesting. What was the context?

We were about to start a committee meeting where we were tackling a specific problem. The speaker is an African-American inner city woman, professional, with (I would guess) strong Southern roots.
