Chris J. StrolinI could add "cinnamon roll" (plus other flavors) and "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" but while adding two to the list, I'm afraid I need to subtract two as well. "Cameo-" and "-playing" are both "role"s.

Robert ArvanitisChris:
Poets speak of "scan of ear" versus "scan of eye." I give the former precedence, for poetry is auditory first.
Thus, I went for the sound, not spelling.
Please add at liberty, without fear of subtraction. We are already covered in the very first line, by the parenthetical addition...

SeanahanI don't see the one which is for rolling a cigarette.

Whoops! My mistake entirely and I do apologize. I hadn't noticed that "roll(role)" in the first line.
Allow me to try to make up for my gaffe by adding to the list:
hamburger/hot dog rolls
kaiser roll
kaiser role (playing the part of the Kaiser)
"Let's roll!"
sweet roll
casserole
lead role
supporting role
walk-on role
forward roll (AKA "somersault")
payroll
blogroll
steamroll
Jelly Roll Morton
and, for BH, Lewis Car-roll

<wordnerd>Kalleh said, "
logroll (a way we roll patients). Never heard that, but the term has another meaning. Per AHD:
logrolling – The exchanging of political favors, especially the trading of influence or votes among legislators to achieve passage of projects that are of interest to one another.
logroll – 1. To engage in political logrolling. 2. To
birl.
Never heard of that red word, so I looked it up, and got two new things. First,
birl –
v trans:To cause (a floating log) to spin rapidly by rotating with the feet.
intrans: 1. To participate in birling. 2. To spin.
(
noun: A whirring noise; a hum.)
[Blend of
birr¹ and
whirl.]
Second, what's red
second red word?
birr¹ – 1. A whirring sound. 2. Strong forward momentum; driving force. (
verb:To make a whirring sound.)
[from Middle English
bir, favorable wind, from Old Norse
byrr]
Interesting etymologies there.

<Asa Lovejoy>And the ever popular t-roll. And the yuppie Rolex. Hmmmm... That sounds like something one consumes to get rid of bloating after consuming too many sweet rolls.
So, RA is on a roll, is he? I hope nobody butters them and makes him slide off on his buns!

CaterwaullerWhen I'm having a good day, "I'm on a roll like buttah (butter)".

There are logging contests, called Conclaves, consisting of several events, including
birling and
log rolling.

Nostalgia contest, however, as the days of floating great log rafts down the river are long gone. Logging's still dangerous enough without throwing drowning into the mix!
