When Mr. Peabody pronounces the name
Cleopatra, you hear the word “pay”.
When I pronounce it, the vowel sound changes and you hear the word “pat”.
I’d never heard the Peabody version.

GeoffI thought it was Klay-OP a-tray.

A few minutes ago outgoing NPR host Robert Siegal was talking about his interest in the various sounds of English speakers. Maybe ask him? BTW, both his parents only spoke Yiddish upon arriving in the USA.
