Somebody told me that he was a "filker," and, sad to say, I had to look it up. Here is what I found about it in Wikipedia. It's interesting that it became a word because of a typo where they used "filk music" for "folk music" in a never-published essay on the influence of Science Fiction and Fantasy on folk music.

What do you know about "filkers"?

So how the leap from folk music to sci-fi? Science filktion? Do they sing any X-rated, filkthy songs?

It sounds like the kind of obscure minority terminology that geeks like to apply to themselves to raise their geekdom to new heights.
