Dispositive
Would dispositive ever be used, except in law? I was about to use it the other day (to mean "definitive"), but then decided to look it up. I was sure I'd heard it used that way before, though I could only find legal definitions. Have you ever used it?

Maybe I'm just too used to living with lawyers...

I've heard it only in legalese, but I see no reason why you shuldn't broaden its usage.

I ended up changing it to "definitive," so that's good. I guess I've just heard it too much around the house. I do think my husband must use it more broadly.
