To our Jewish friends, g'mar chatimah tovah or “May you be sealed for a good year in the Book of Life.”
For non-Jews, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is our holiest of holidays (like Christmas for Christians). We pray for forgiveness from God, repent sincerely for our sins during the past year, and bring tz'dakah (charitable expressions of righteousness) to the Temple. The Kol Nidre is chanted. Here is an example of what it is like, though none of the online recordings do it justice. It truly touches your heart. Many also fast on this holiday and then have a break the fast meal at the end of Yom Kippur. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Kalleh, |
