I think the system logs you out after a period of inactivity. I said my goodbyes at the end, and suddenly remembered something else I wanted to do on the computer. I forgot to close the chat window, and about ten minutes later I saw that I'd been logged off. No-one else was left in the chat list.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
You are probably right, but was there any indication that you had been logged off? That no one else was left in the chat list doesn't mean that, to me.
It had a message, yes. I can't remember the exact wording, but it was something like connection with the server had been lost.
Your name didn't appear in the list while we were chatting, or at least while I was; I arrived about 15 minutes after the chat was due to start. I take that to mean your connection with the server was broken before we started.
EDIT: I just looked at the chat transcript. Your last post was made three hours before anyone else (other than jerry) arrived in the chat room. Unfortunately the transcript only gives what was said, not when people entered or left the chat room.

That sounds right (the 3 hours). I had no indication that I was no longer connected, but clearly I must not have been.
I didn't know you could retrieve the transcript. It might (or might not) be a good idea to post that - I assume it doesn't have private messages logged.
Yes, the admins can do that, although only for chats in the last 15 days. If anyone asks me by PM I'll be happy to provide details of what was said while they were participating, to help clear up any confusions. We don't think it's a good idea to provide transcripts that can be seen by people who weren't involved in the chat at the time.
The only reason I looked was to see if the times when people log in or out are recorded; they aren't.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
Once again we hope to see you on the chat tomorrow. It'll start at 12:00 noon CDT. Our time hasn't changed yet, but that confusion will be upon us soon.
Since it's October, let's talk about out Halloween Costume Party. Last week on the chat people indicated they'd like another party this Halloween. Let's plan for one on October 25th, the Saturday before Halloween. Get your costumes dusted off and ready to go!
I'm going to Horsham today as J D Wetherspoon have a beer festival. I shoul be back in time - but whether I'll be in fit condition to type is another matter

Well, we got mixed up on the time (your time has changed and ours hasn't) so it was a little sparse. However, we had a good time, at least from my point of view.
Again, tomorrow is the chat at 12:00 pm, CST. I will not be there because of a conference, and in fact I probably won't be around a lot in the next 2 weeks because of family coming in.
I hope a few of you will be able to join us on the chat tomorrow. It has been awhile since I've chatted, and I am looking forward to it. For anyone who hasn't chatted before, it's scheduled for 12:00 noon, CST, and the directions are on the top of this thread.
Bob, my family has been visiting all week, so we weren't on the chat last week and haven't been posting much. As soon as I tried to sneak a post in, my 8 year old niece wanted to use my computer for her Webkinz. That site was new to me. From my understanding, you buy these stuffed animals and then register them on that site.
I don'tknow. Tmobile haven't managed o find out why my broadband won't connect to the chat room. I do still have the dial up but the electric fire I had in that room has broken and typing in mittens isn't very easy.
Not only a convection heater - electric radiant heaters are also known as electric fires.
Oh, and I wasn't on the chat as I was sitting in the Dover Marine terminal waiting for my ship to dock. Which she eventually didn't and so I went home. I hope that she will be alongside now and we will be able to board this afternoon.

As UK/US difference I hadn't previously encountered. Any stand alone elictrically powered heating device is referred to as an "electric fire". And before anyone asks, no, not all our homes have central heating. Mine, for example, doesn't.
AFAIK, one salient feature of electric fires is a faux fireplace look (link). I always assumed they come into prominence after coal was banned from being burned in metropolitan areas in the UK.
There are lots of different types and sizes of electric fires available. They range from the permanent fires that are referred to by zmj that are intended to heat entire rooms to the much smaller portable ones (about the size of a laptop computer) intended for space heating. Some are radiant heaters, others use convection.
Fake logs and flames are common in the larger fires (including those that use gas) but not the smaller ones

Thanks, arnie. It's good to know. Of course, I only noticed the bigger ones because I've never seen them in the States, but they may exist outside my sphere of visitation. Also, in traffic yesterday it dawned on me that in the UK what we here call a flashlight is called an electric torch.
